Game Day

Another terrific football day for the Big Green and its fans. We've got a dusting of snow up here on the mountain but down in town it is expected to be 41 degrees and partly cloudy for the 4 p.m. kickoff. According to our friends at AccuWeather, the temperature will dip to about 35 degrees by game's end, but it will be dry – for the eighth week in a row.
The BGA Premium preview of this today's game is centered largely around Dartmouth's surprising success against Cornell quarterback Jeff Mathews. Over his first three years with the Big Red, Mathews threw 12 interceptions against Ivy League schools not named Dartmouth and had seven agains the Big Green alone.

Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens offered up a few thoughts for BGA Premium about how his team has defended Mathews and Cornell. What he did not mention is Dartmouth has a little "local knowledge" about Mathews.

It turns out that senior corner AJ Dettorre has been familiar with the Cornell standout from their days in Southern California. Dettorre played his high school ball at Moorpark and Mathews played at neighboring Camarillo. Not only that, Dettorre and Moorpark ended Mathews' high school season by beating Camarillo 49-7 in the CIF Northern Division quarterfinals. Mathews completed 19-of-34 pass for 244 yards that day but Dettorre and the Moorpark secondary picked him off twice and Camarillo was crushed.

Could it be deja vu today?

Check out this video of the two Southern Californians (and quite a few others) announcing their college decisions as high school seniors. Mathews leads the video off. Dettorre is at the 1:48 mark.
Remember Teevens was looking for a nickname for Memorial Field? The decision was The Woods (no relation ;-).

Here's a hype video about danger in The Woods that certainly worked against Yale a few weeks back:
