Save The Dates

While on campus early this morning for a story interview I confirmed that the Green-White spring game is slated for Saturday, May 3.

While I'm at it, the banquet celebrating the 2013 team will be held on Sunday, April 6. In the past it was held shortly after the season – the day after the finale the past few years – but the reworked Dartmouth academic schedule that has the final game during exams has made that impossible.
Did you see this post on SI about Daytona International Speedway possibly hosting a college football game? Having seen the grandstands and grounds at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in September with the Dartmouth football team during its trip to Butler I can't help but think they could pull off the same thing at Indy. Maybe the first 200,000-plus crowd for a game? Probably not featuring Butler, though ;-)
The field is clear today but this picture from several years ago gives
an idea of what it might look like if they played hockey in the stadium.
Football at the Speedway, ice hockey on the gridiron at Michigan's Big House and the cold weather here this winter (11.7 below up on the mountain last night) got me daydreaming yet again about the idea of a hockey game on Dartmouth's Memorial Field.

Not sure how it would work with FieldTurf, but given the average life expectancy of the ersatz grass, the surface will have to be replaced in the next handful of years and wouldn't it be unbelievable to toss the ice down during the winter between FieldTurf I and FieldTurf II?

Play Vermont and its faithful fans and I'd be absolutely shocked if the game weren't a sellout. In fact, I'd think you could probably put up additional portable seating and get more than 15,000 for the game.

Who knows, maybe a former Dartmouth ice hockey player name Buddy Teevens might even take a spin around the sheet. ;-)
