Still Working The 'Net

Following up on the post about where Dartmouth players come from, here's a map showing where 844 Ivy League players call home. Not much happening in the Great Plains.
You know two high school football players have very similar names when a Google search for one who might be headed to Dartmouth brings up not just a story about the Big Green's interest in him, but also a note about the other one who is coming to Hanover according to published reports.

If they are both in next fall's freshman class it will be two things. A little confusing. And a lot of fun for the coaches.

Stay tuned for an update if/when something turns up on the web.

In the meantime, keeps those email tips and links on potential recruits coming.
Sophomore wide receiver Victor Williams fouled on three of his jumps but still finished third in the long jump Saturday as the Dartmouth men's track team won a three-way meet with Columbia and Yale.

Williams also ran hurdles in high school where he followed in the spikes of his record-setting father. Check out this story from his days back in Muskogee, Okla.

A Sports Network story headlined, Nine FCS players among early entries to draft includes John Spooney and makes it sound as if he's giving up his final year at Brown to test the NFL waters. That's simply not true. From the story:
Spooney (5-11, 185), a senior academically, had one season of eligibility remaining at Brown because he took off the 2012 season to concentrate on running track. An Ivy League sprint champion, he led the league in rushing yards (1,170) and rushing yards per game (130) this past season. He rushed for touchdowns of 93 and 94 yards in the same game against Penn, finishing the season with 10 scores on the ground.
The truth is that as a senior academically, Spooney is not eligible to return to Brown for another season. Yes, he could play as a graduate student at another school. But because the Ivy League does not allow graduate students to compete in athletics, enrolling somewhere else would be his only opportunity to continue to play since he's enrolled in school this spring. Granted, by the letter of the law he has another season of eligibility somewhere, but a student-athlete who is graduating on time is not "leaving early."
College Sports Journal has named its 2013 All-Freshman team and there's just one Ivy Leaguer honored. Chosen was Yale corner Foyesade Oluokun.
When early prep for  the 2014 season begins, Dartmouth will be taking a look at film of season-opening foe Central Connecticut. But the Big Green braintrust may also want to scope out what has been happening on the blue turf of UNH.

Huh?

UNH in this case is the University of New Haven, which like a certain school out west plays on blue plastic.

New Haven coach Pete Rossmando is moving to Central Connecticut after going an impressive 42-13 over the past five years.
The New York Times had a story about former Dartmouth receiver Harry Wilson's now famous son under the headline, Moral Support Is Family Tradition for Seahawks’ Wilson.

Quarterback Russell Wilson won't be the only member of the Seattle Seahawks Super Bowl team knows the way to Memorial Field. Former Cornell standout Bryan Walters is a receiver with Seattle.

Speaking of Cornell, Big Red senior Jeff Mathews completed 4-of-5 passes for 37 yards with one touchdown in the East-West Shrine game Saturday afternoon.
