He Knows Of What He Speaks

Former Dartmouth return specialist All-American Shawn Abuhoff '12 helped present the College Football Performance Award for punting at a star-filled Miami Heat game. Click here to see Abuhoff's presentation speech.
Cedric Calhoun, who coached on the defensive side at Dartmouth from 2006-09, has joined the football staff at Vanderbilt as an assistant sports performance coach.

Calhoun's profile on the Vandy football website explains that he was out of the game last year "assisting children with autism at the Piedmont School of Atlanta," but doesn't go into any detail about what an assistant sports performance coach does. He coached defensive line at Florida International from 2010-12.
The Ivy League website has a list of former Ancient Eight players to appear in the Super Bowl and every school is represented. Dartmouth's Reggie Williams went in 1982 and '89 with the Cincinnati Bengals. Ironically, Dartmouth is the only school not to have a player on a winning Super Bowl team.

Former tight end Adam Young '99 was on the practice squad for the New York Giants when they fell to the Ravens in 2001 and has a Super Bowl ring. (Editor's note: I remember writing a story about Adam in which he joked a little about how some fans mistook him for starting quarterback Kerry Collins.)
Speaking of the Super Bowl, the Burlington Free Press writes about 2007 Middlebury grad Steven Hauschka, who can thank being cut by the Midd soccer team for making it to the Meadowlands today with the Seattle Seahawks. I distinctly remember watching Hauschka's kicks on Memorial Field in the annual jayvee game with Middlebury and joking with Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens about how good he would have looked in green.
Mrs. BGA and I were in the stands both Friday and Saturday nights as the Dartmouth men's basketball team recorded its first home sweep of Penn and Princeton in 25 years. Ironically, Paul Cormier was the Big Green coach that winter as well. Find a story here.
Unspeakably sad news yesterday with the death of Dartmouth junior Torin Tucker of Sun Valley, Idaho during a cross country skiing event in Craftsbury, Vt. There is a story on the Dartmouth website and a statement from college President Phil Hanlon here.
