Teevens Heading to White House

An early and vocal advocate of limited contact and no tackling in practice, Dartmouth football coach Buddy Teevens has been invited to the White House Thursday as part of the White House Healthy Kids and Safe Sports Concussion Summit. (White House link)

From a Washington Post story:
(President) Obama said he was more concerned about college players getting concussions than NFL players, who are well-compensated grown men and have the protection of a union.
"You read some of these stories about college players who undergo some of these same problems with concussions and so forth and then have nothing to fall back on. That's something that I'd like to see the NCAA think about," Obama said.
Teevens role in the summit is a spinoff from his appearance at a seminar in Worcester, Mass., last summer that featured neurological surgeon Dr. Robert Cantu and former New Orleans Saints executive Terry O'Neill. NFL.com wrote about that seminar here.

Cantu, a senior adviser to both the NFL and the NFL Players Association, is quoted in today's Washington Post story about the summit. (LINK)
