NFL Coaching Internship

Shameless reposting of an incoming recruit's screen grab
of Cortez Hankton (middle) during the Washington-New England game.
Dartmouth wide receivers coach Cortez Hankton spent the early part of the NFL preseason doing a Bill Walsh NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship with the Washington Redskins. Hankton, who spent most of his playing career with the Jacksonville Jaguars, previously did a Walsh stint with the Denver Broncos. Find his Dartmouth bio HERE.
Missed this earlier but the Harvard Crimson newspaper included a few opinions with the story (LINK) it wrote about the Ivy League football media teleconference. Of Dartmouth, the story had this to say:
Dartmouth would be a dark horse if they weren’t so damned popular, particularly after upsetting Princeton to end 2013. Their ability to truly reach the upper echelon rides on the shoulders of junior Dalyn Williams. The dual-threat QB enters his third season needing to show the consistency Princeton’s Quinn Epperly and Harvard’s Conner Hempel will likely exhibit. The fact the rest of the team is strong enough for Williams to potentially take them to a title is a testament to (Coach Buddy) Teevens.
The bottom line, however:
Ultimately, the title is going to Princeton or Harvard, and I think the Crimson has what it takes to beat the Tigers after two losing efforts.
Like UNH and Holy Cross, Week One opponent Central Connecticut State is already practicing. (LINK)
I did a story several years ago with former Dartmouth rugby coach Alex Magleby (BIO) in which he talked about using GPS technology to monitor players during practice. Combined with remote heart-rate sensors, Magleby explained, you could see how far and hard players were running, whether they were approaching their maximum capabilities or being pushed too hard. GPS technology on athletes may sound like science fiction, but it is in use by the University of North Carolina football team. (LINK)
Have you heard of the Fall Experimental Football League? Me neither. Find a good explanation of the concept HERE. Sports Illustrated has a story about the FXFL headlined, New league hoping to bring a true minor-league system to pro football. (LINK)

And finally, That Certain '14 would gladly have stayed in her job as a ranger at Colorado National Monument but she needs to be back in the Upper Valley Monday to begin a fall stint student teaching high school geology and environmental science through the Dartmouth Teacher Education Program. At the end of the fall term she will be certified to teach at the high school level in something like three dozen states.

That Certain '14 and Mrs. BGA hit the road in Colorado at O-Dark-30 this morning as they drive home via Madison, Wis., where the June grad will be moving in January to start a new job. First, however, she will do the Tuck School's December Bridge Program.

I spoke with her last night and she gave me the OK to repost this sweet picture of her administering the oath to a Junior Ranger at the Colorado National Monument visitor center.

That Certain '14 administers an oath that she and her brother took many,
many times during our visits to national parks across the country.
Check out her final blog post about a summer to remember HERE.
