Games involving Dartmouth opponents:
Harvard 22, Brown 14
Recap and links
Proving once again that two-deeps aren't worth anything, junior quarterback Scott Hosch didn't show up on the Harvard's depth chart but was there Saturday night as he completed 24-of-34 passes with one touchdown and ran for another to help Harvard (2-0) to a closer-than-expected win in his first career start. Brown (0-2) led, 14-6, late in the third and the Crimson's lead was just 16-14 until Hosch's TD run with 2:07 remaining. Paul Stanton Jr., ran for 120 yards and a touchdown for Harvard while Andrew Fischer was catching 12 passes for 115 yards and another score. Brown, which was held to a field goal in losing its opener at Georgetown, got its first two touchdowns of the season on an 18-yard TD pass from Marcus Fuller to Reiley Higgins and a one-yard run by Andrew Coke. Hosch started for the injured Conner Hempel, who was listed as Harvard's starter while Joseph Viviano III was the backup in the Crimson game notes. Played under portable lights at Brown Stadium, the game drew 13,511.
Yale 49, Army 43
Recap and links
Army (1-3) got more than it bargained for when it agreed to visit Yale Bowl in celebration of the venerable facility's 100th anniversary. Tyler Varga ran for 185 yards and five touchdowns, the last in overtime as Yale (2-0) won its first game against an FBS opponent since joining the FCS in 1982. Quarterback Morgan Roberts completed 23-of-40 passes for 290 yards with one touchdown and one interception and added 67 yards and a touchdown rushing. The Bulldogs twice erased 14-point deficits in the third quarter. Varga's 10-yard run with 1:42 remaining tied the score and Army missed a 42-yard field goal to win at the end of regulation. The Cadets moved the ball to the Yale 2 in the top half of the overtime and after a bad snap sabotaged their third-down play missed a field goal. The Bulldogs ran the ball five straight times to the 3 before Varga crashed in for the winning points in the bottom of the frame. Yale finished with 625 yards of offense to top the 600 mark for the second week in a row. The game drew a crowd of 34,142.
Villanova 41, Penn 7
Recap and links
Villanova (3-1) exploded for 41 points in the first half and then called off the dogs, er, Wildcats, in a totally lopsided win over Penn (0-2). Nova piled up 417 yards of offense in the first two quarters but just 150 after the break as it took the air out of the ball. The Wildcats finished with a 30-12 advantage in first downs and more than doubled Penn with 567 yards of total offense to the Quakers' 273. Kyle Wilcox ran nine times for 93 yards including a 67-yard burst for Penn's only touchdown of the night. Penn quarterback Alek Torgersen was 18-for-30 for 180 yards and two interceptions and was sacked by Villanova four times.
Princeton 56, Davidson 17
Recap and links
Quinn Epperly completed 15-of-18 passes for 176 yards but the Princeton (1-1) quarterback did the most damage with his legs as he carried 16 times for 118 yards and four touchdowns as the Tigers won easily against overmatched opponent Davidson (1-4). Princeton needed just 20 minutes, 22 seconds of possession time to pile up the points and punted just once. Dre Nelson got things started for Princeton by returning the opening kickoff 89 yards for a touchdown. Princeton scored on 9-of-11 possessions not counting taking a knee at the half.
