Saturday Wrap

A look at game featuring Dartmouth opponents . . .

Harvard 24, Cornell 7
Recap and links
Cornell's defense has struggled so mightily again this fall that it was a stunner this game was scoreless until almost five minutes were gone in the second half. Once again, starting Harvard (4-0, 2-0) quarterback Connor Hempel did not play. Backup Scott Hosch threw for 240 yards but his two interceptions contributed to the Crimson's uncharacteristic five turnovers. Starting tailback Paul Stanton, Jr., who has been in and out of the lineup this fall, had 10 carries for 56 yards but once again reserve Andrew Casten carried the load with 16 rushes for 69 yards. Cornell (0-4, 0-2) managed just 10 first downs and 175 total yards.

Brown 27, Holy Cross 24, 2OT
Recap and links
The Crusaders (2-5) will bring a four-game losing streak to Hanover after losing by a field goal or less for the third time this fall. Brown (2-2, 0-1) and Holy Cross both scored touchdowns in the first overtime but the Crusaders missed a field goal in the second overtime, allowing the Bears to come away with the win on a 23-yard kick. Holy Cross quarterback Peter Pujals was 30-for-44 for 252 yards with two interceptions and one touchdown but managed just 21 yards on the ground in a game played in a driving rainstorm. Marcus Fuller was 20-for-37 for 240 yards and two touchdowns without a pick for Brown. He added 25 yards on the ground.

Colgate 31, Princeton 30
Recap and links
Dre Nelson returned the opening kickoff 100 yards to help Princeton (2-2, 1-0) sprint out to a 16-0 first-quarter lead. The Raiders rallied to close within 23-21 at the half. Down 30-21 as the midway point of the third quarter approached, Colgate (4-2) used a 76-yard TD drive to make it 30-28 and a 74-yard march to set up a 23-yard field goal three seconds into the fourth period that provided the winning points. The Tigers forced a fumble at their own 34 with 1:15 left but could get only to their 46 before a fourth-and-six pass fell incomplete. Di Andre Atwater carried 18 times for 131 yards for Princeton.

Fordham 60, Penn 22
Recap and links
Al Bagnoli is still looking for the first win of his final season at the Penn (0-4) helm as the Quakers surrendered 43 first-half points and the Rams piled up a mind-boggling 730 yards of offense. The numbers were as ugly as the game as Mike Nebrich threw for 566 yards and six touchdowns for Fordham and the Quakers turned the ball over four times, including a fumble for a touchdown.

Monmouth 61, Columbia 28
Recap and links
The Lions (0-4, 0-1) fell behind 40-0 at the half with heralded Stanford transfer Brett Nottingham going 5-for-10 for 32 yards with three interceptions before giving way to Trevor McDonagh. The Columbia backup tossed four touchdown passes over the final 19 minutes of the game, but it was far too little and far too late against a Monmouth (5-1) team that recorded 602 yards of offense. The Hawks led, 54-0, late in the third quarter.

New Hampshire 32, William & Mary 3
Recap and links
Not exactly known for its defense, No. 4 UNH (5-1) limited the No. 10 Tribe (4-2) to 14 first downs and 217 yards of offense and held the visitors without a touchdown. New Hampshire, which had beaten William & Mary just once since 2001, gave up just 112 passing yards on 18 completions. Andy Vailas again ran the show for UNH, competing 25-of-36 throws for 276 yards and three scores.

Duquesne 28, Central Connecticut State 20
Recap and links
Rob Hollomon's TD with 6:51 remaining pulled the Blue Devils within eight and they followed with a drive into the red zone before the bid ended with three consecutive incompletions from the Duquesne 7. Hollomon finished with 131 yards on eight carries.
