Lots O' Links

Thanks for a link to a story out of Chicago about Dartmouth linebacker Will McNamara. From the story about the first-team All-Ivy League pick:
"On our football team, I fit in really well,” McNamara, a junior linebacker, said. “There are a lot of blue-collar guys on the team. South Side guys are very similar to Ivy League guys.
“They’re the same guys. You meet someone and you’re like, ‘This guy reminds me of my buddy back home.’ And our coaches are all about tough, hard-nosed guys. That’s a category a lot of our guys fit into.”
Speaking of linebackers, an emailer sent along the name of a linebacker who indicated in his hometown that he is heading to Dartmouth – and you'll be sharing the link to his highlight video with others after you see it. That is, if you see it.

I can't find any confirmation of his intentions online, so at this point this is nothing more than a tease. Sorry about that ;-)
Speaking of linebacker recruits, NJ.com writes that:

New Jersey linebacker Kyle Kleinberg of Don Bosco prep chose Syracuse "over scholarship offers from Maine, Dartmouth and Yale."

Green Alert Take: Whew. I'd hate to think Yale is going to get a jump on all of the Ancient Eight in offering football scholarships ;-)
Dartmouth All-Ivy League defensive lineman AJ Zuttah's brother Jeremy won't be going to the Super Bowl as starting center with the Baltimore Ravens, but that makes life a little easier for their mom, Christine, as a story on NJ.com details.
A Dec. 2010 story on the challenges of Ivy League recruiting dug up by a poster on the Ivy League message board mentions Dartmouth senior lineman Scotty Whitmore but centers around Jordan Aré, a Big Green senior who saw time at wide receiver for the Big Green.
Did you catch the New York Times story on former Dartmouth women's basketball great Courtney Banghart? The onetime Big Green assistant coach has the Princeton women at 17-0 and ranked No. 19 in the nation with a 30-point win at Michigan and a 17- win over Wake Forest along with wins over Pitt and Georgetown. Banghart's records at Princeton are eye-opening:

2007-08 – 7-23
2008-09 – 14-14
2009-10 –  26-3
2010-11 – 24-5
2011-12 – 24-5
2012-13 – 22-7
2013-14 – 21-9
2014-15 – 17-0

Princeton has gone 66-5 in the Ivy League under Banghart since 2009-10, with four Ivy League titles and a second-place finish.
And finally, I was rooting hard for Oregon last night in the FBS title game, but it was clear Ohio State was the better team.

The turning point for the Buckeyes this fall was their overtime win at Penn State, a game they would have lost if the officials had made the right calls on two plays. (They kicked a field goal two seconds after the play clock expired, and were credited with a first-down catch on a TD drive that the jumbotron showed hit the ground. The officials did not have that replay in the truck and so, despite being able to see the play clearly on the scoreboard, ruled it a catch.)

Not that I'm bitter or anything ;-)
