The Kicking Schmidts

Two snowblowers were crisscrossing Memorial Field Tuesday. With recruiting weekends on tap it's not a bad thing to be able to show off the field. At the same time, the work is necessary to have the field ready once the weather is good enough to be outside.
A couple of names familiar to Dartmouth football followers will be united 950 miles away this fall.

Joining the University of Chicago program coached by former Big Green assistant Chris Wilkerson is Mac Schmidt, a kicker from Inver Grove Heights, Minn. Schmidt's brother Foley '12, is third on the all-time Dartmouth kick scoring list with 186 points.

Mac Schmidt was named to the Pioneer Press All-East Metro Team and was chosen to the Minnesota Football Coaches' Association All-State Second Team. He's the third brother to star in football (and hockey) at St. Thomas Academy, following Foley and Wyatt, who seriously considered Dartmouth before ultimately choosing to be a USC Trojan.

From a piece about the kicking Schmidts at St. Thomas Academy:
"Mac finished the season 5-6 on field goals and 21-21 for extra points and 6-8 on field goals and 61-63 on extra points for his career.  Along with his brothers Wyatt, red shirt kicker at USC and former national high school kicker of the year, and Foley the 5th leading all time scorer at Dartmouth College, the three Cadets were a combined 307 for 316 extra points and 33 for 41 on field goals."
Apparently it's never too early to start talking about next season ;-)

The Sports Network ranks the top 17 teams heading into the 2015 campaign. New Hampshire checks in at No. 8. The story ends with a handful of teams that narrowly missed the TSN cut, including an Ivy. From the story:
"Five others to consider: Harvard (10-0; No. 15), Montana (9-5; No. 13), South Dakota State (9-5; No. 12), Stephen F. Austin (8-5; unranked), Western Carolina (7-5; unranked).
And finally, it was a little brisk here this morning (7.9 below) but walking the pup under crystal clear skies late yesterday afternoon I figured there was going to be a pretty nice sunset so I hustled back in to get my camera. It's easy to take the beauty of our surroundings here on the shoulder of Moose Mountain for granted, but then a view like this comes along. This is looking out over Hanover to the Vermont mountains.
