Dowdakin Recognized

Jared Dowdakin '08, a captain of the 2007 Dartmouth football team, has been selected as one of the top-10 offensive lineman over the last 50 years in the Rockford Register Star coverage area of Illinois. (LINK)

The paper, which covers almost 30 high schools, writes of the former Big Green lineman:
The 6-2, 295-pound Dowdakin was a three-year letterwinner at offensive line for the Titans. From there, he went on to start at Dartmouth from his freshman year (2005) through his senior year (2008).

From a former Dartmouth player to a potential future Dartmouth player . . .

The Washington Post writes that Jake Funk, a 5-11, 205 running back for the Damascus Swarmin’ Hornets, has added a Dartmouth "offer" to his resume.

Green Alert Take: Playing and winning handily at Georgetown probably didn't hurt Dartmouth's chances at landing a local from the D.C. area . . . who stars for a school with a really cool nickname ;-)
This week Dartmouth opens the home season against 2-1 Sacred Heart, which is coming off a shocking 34-27 loss at Marist.

Marist, by the way, was 0-2 before Sacred Heart, losing to Bucknell (17-0) and Georgetown (34-7).

Stay with me now as we do the three degrees of separation thing . . .

Two weeks ago Sacred Heart defeated Valparaiso, 56-3. That sounds impressive, and even more so when you consider that Valpo rebounded from the Sacred Heart loss with an 86-0 win last week.

Except . . .

Valparaiso's win came over College of Faith, Arkansas, and prior to playing COF Valpo had dropped in its first two games by a combined, 108-13.

Regarding the Valparaiso win, ESPN.com points out that Valpo ran for 333 yards and had 10 sacks:
But none that will ever appear in any official record book. Why? Because their opponent was the Arkansas-based College of Faith, and while the Warriors might come out to play, the first-year Division II program is on the NCAA's Schools That Aren't Real list. OK, that's not what the list is called. It's officially the "non-countable opponents" list, a roster of schools that are either too small, too new or too fake to be recognized as a legit contest. And, as some intrepid Internet sleuths pointed out, that non-countable opponent has unusable uniforms. One photo that started making the social media rounds shows College of Faith with holes in their britches as big as the holes in their defense.
In case you are wondering, College of Faith lost its opener to Division II McKendree, 68-0.
