Gridiron Club Announces 2015 New England College Football Awards; 

Dartmouth QB Williams and BC Linebacker Daniels Win 77th Bulger Lowe

  Western New England's Keith Emery is Division III Coach of Year After Leading Golden Bears to First Unbeaten Season; Brown Wide Receiver Brian Strachan is Division I Winner of 70th Swede Nelson Award

BOSTON - November 19, 2015 - Gridiron Club of Greater Boston College Awards Committee chairman Tim Whelan today announced that Dartmouth College quarterback Dalyn Williams (Corinth, TX) and Boston College middle linebacker Steven Daniels (Cincinnati, OH) are the winners of the 77th annual George "Bulger" Lowe Award, "New England's Heisman Trophy" and one of America's oldest college football accolades.

The Bulger Lowe Award recognizes the New England's best offensive and defensive players in the NCAA Bowl and Championship Divisions, formerly known as Divisions IA and IAA. Williams and Daniels head an all-star slate of players, coaches and officials to be honored at the club's annual Bob Whelan College Football Awards Night on Thursday, December 17, 2015 at the Marriott Hotel in Burlington, Massachusetts.

The winners of the 70th annual Nils V. "Swede" Nelson Award for exceptional achievement in sportsmanship, academics, and athletics are Brown wide receiver Brian Strachan (Wellesley, MA) in the Bowl/Championship Division; Stonehill defensive back Anthony Masucci (East Haven, CT) in Division II; and Fitchburg State wide receiver Ty Spencer (Foxboro, MA) in Division III.

Other honors conferred that evening by the Gridiron Club will be:
  
The 20th annual Joe Zabilski Award recognizes New England's top offensive and defensive players in Divisions II and III. University of New Haven linebacker Tyler Condit (Caldwell, NJ) and Assumption College kicker Cole Tracy (Camarillo, CA)    are the Division II honorees. In Division III, the Zabilski winners are Framingham State quarterback Matt Silva (Dracut, MA) and Amherst College defensive back Jimmy Fairfield-Sonn (Old Lyme, CT).

Head Coach of the Year Awards to Buddy Teevens of Dartmouth in the Bowl/Championship Divisions; Bob Chesney of Assumption College in Division II; and Keith Emery of Western New England University in Division III. 

Assistant Coach of the Year awards to Boston College defensive coordinator Don Brown in the Bowl/Championship Division; Eli Gardner, assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Stonehill College, in Division II, and Dick Yule, quarterbacks and special teams coach at Curry College, in Division III.

The Joseph V. McKenney Award for top collegiate football official to Waltham resident Rick Santilli of the American Athletic Conference.

The John Baronian Award for Lifetime Contribution to Football to Leo Fanning, currently assistant head coach and defensive back coach at Bentley University. In his 40-year career he has also coached at Bridgewater State, UMass, Harvard, Boston University, Vermont, AIC, Holy Cross, and Tufts .
