Because he and Joe Harasymiak have something in common.
I know what you are thinking.
Joe who?
Joe Harasymiak, a University of Maine assistant coach, has been promoted by the Black Bears and is now the youngest Division I head football coach in the country at the age of 29.
When Teevens was named head coach at Maine in 1985 he was the youngest head coach in the country at the age of 28. With that in mind, the Bangor Daily News tracked Teevens down on the recruiting trail to get a few thoughts about the challenges the new Maine coach will face. There's another familiar name these thoughts from Teevens:
Teevens said the biggest adjustment for Harasymiak will be the administrative aspects of the job and that it will be important for him to name a top-notch staff he can rely on.
“You can’t do it all yourself. That’s the hardest lesson I had to learn,” said Teevens. “I had a good, loyal staff when I was at Maine that included (current Harvard head coach) Tim Murphy as my offensive coordinator and (current University of California-Berkeley cornerbacks coach) John Lovett as my defensive coordinator. That made the transition easier for me.
Dartmouth shared the Ivy League championship this year with Murphy’s Crimson and the University of Pennsylvania.Murphy became the Maine head coach when Teevens departed Orono for Hanover.

And finally II, speaking of old friends . . .The Princeton women's basketball team coached by former Dartmouth guard and assistant coach Courtney Banghart won't finish the regular season undefeated the way it did last year. But it's not like the Tigers are struggling ;-) They are 9-1 with a 74-57 win over previously undefeated Michigan and a 61-47 victory over Pitt already on their resume. They play at Ohio State tomorrow. Their only loss was to 10-1 Seton Hall.
