Heading This Way

Jace Henry to Dartmouth is a big story in Fairbanks.

In a story posted on the KTVF television website in Fairbanks quarterback Jace Henry has this to say about choosing Dartmouth:
"It was definitely the hardest decision I've had to make to this point. (It) was very hard to pick between do I want football or academics, but with Dartmouth, it is the absolute best for academics and athletics so there's nothing more I could ask for. The unique opportunities I'll be able to receive at Dartmouth is just second to none.”

The Any Given Saturday message board has a thread spun out of the story referenced here yesterday about why the Ivies should go to the playoffs. The thread is under the headline, North Dakota Laughs At The Ivies. Find it HERE.

Green Alert Take: That headline is misleading. The gist of the story is the same thing a lot of us have been saying for years. Ivy League football belongs in the FCS playoffs, it would be a good thing both for the Ivies and college football if they went, and there's no rational explanation at this point for the ban.

Green Alert Take II: So everyone knows. It's not the Ivy League players, coaches or athletic directors who are against the playoffs. It is the Ivy League presidents, pure and simple.

Green Alert Take III: Those on the message board who think Ivy League teams would be a pushover might want to take a good look at the number of Ivy Leaguers playing in the NFL. Maybe ask the 2014 Army team or 2018 Maine (which went to the FCS semifinals after getting crushed by a .500 Yale team) about the quality of play in the Ivy. Or maybe the 2016 New Hampshire team that made it two rounds in the FCS playoffs after falling to the only Dartmouth team to have a losing record since 2010.
