Well, the first night of the NFL Draft is in the books. Rounds two and three are tonight before things get interesting for Dartmouth's draft hopefuls tomorrow.
While we wait, SB Nation’s Baltimore Beatdown site has targeted a former Big Green standout as the Ravens' final pick. From the site:
225) Zach Sammartino, IOL, Dartmouth.Sammartino never gave up a sack during his career at Dartmouth but might’ve earned a few paychecks from IHOP because all he did was give out pancakes. Sammartino has slow feet but they’re efficient. He played in both gap and zone schemes where his tenacity and downright nasty attitude are just fun to watch.
A late-round flyer on a hard working small-school dude.

Something to keep in mind: Over the past decade the high-water mark for FCS draft picks was 21 in 2011. The low-water mark was last year with 13. With no on-site Pro Days and scouts unable to come through in the spring there's a very real chance the number will be down this time around.

I'm a big fan of Dartmouth strength and conditioning coach Spencer Brown, not just for the work he does in the weight room and the field but for the approach he brings to his role. This 24-second video is straight from his playbook:

During the Dartmouth Club of Houston virtual gathering with Buddy Teevens Wednesday evening the Big Green head coach called on offensive coordinator Kevin Daft – who recruits the area – to share a few words. What Daft had to say might be a surprise to anyone who doesn't follow recruiting in this era closely:
"We’ve offered around 50 guys in Texas as of right now. And in the Greater Houston area about 19. Because of NCAA rules I can't tell you exactly their names, but you can look on Twitter. A lot of kids these days post their offers online there."If 50 "offers" sounds like a lot – and I'm sure it does to a great many of you – consider this: Per 247Sports Dartmouth has 170 offers out right now. And keep in mind, those are only the offers that 247Sports has become aware of and not all the offers out there. Not by a long shot. Here's the 247Sports breakdown of Dartmouth offers by position (LINK):
7 Pro Style QBs
7 Dual Threat QBs
5 All-purpose backs
5 Running backs
17 Wide receivers
15 Tight ends
29 Offensive tackles
12 Offensive guards
2 Centers
7 Weak-side defensive ends
10 Strong-side defensive ends
3 Defensive tackles
10 Inside linebackers
5 Outside linebackers
11 Corners
8 Safeties
16 Athletes
1 Punter
Here's something to keep in mind. The 247Sports site had Dartmouth offering a combined 88 players on offense last year and three of those players ended up in the recruiting class that is scheduled to arrive in August.
Green Alert Take: I've said it before and I'll say it again, when it comes to free online recruiting services they are worth every penny you pay for them ;-)

EXTRA POINTThat Certain Nittany Lion '16 and I see eye-to-eye on a good number of things but when we don't, we don't.
One place where we seem to almost always disagree is when I say, "Doesn't so-and-so look a lot like so-and-so?" It's fair to say he seldom if ever sees it the way I see it.
I can't remember where he stands on my Joe Burrow/Macauley Culken comparison but watching the first pick of the NFL Draft last night I was struck again by how much I think the LSU quarterback looks like a grown-up version of the Home Alone star.
I couldn't find pictures that do the comparison justice, but what do you think?
Now, I know TCNL'16 is going to read this and think, "He's wrong again," but c'mon, Culkin is even wearing LSU colors, right?
Listen up Nittany Lion '16. Before you think I'm on my own planet, check out what someone else dug up:
Take a look at that Tweet and all the postings on THIS PAGE.
I rest my case ;-)
