On Kentucky Derby Weekend

This video from the Dartmouth football office is well worth watching!

2020 Ivy League Football Schedules

Clearing out more boxes here in the BGA World Headquarters I came across a collection of DVDs of the entire 2008 Dartmouth season as well as the banquet highlight tape. It wasn't exactly a highlight season but, in the ongoing effort to clear up clutter, I'm giving them away. I'll pack 'em up and mail them to the first person who emails me that they would like them.
Missed this but an "Alert" emailer shared a note that Darren Mustin, an assistant strength and conditioning coach at Dartmouth in 2011 and '12, has the same role at the University of Southern California. Check out his USC Trojan bio HERE.
It's supposed to be Kentucky Derby weekend so in honor of that . . .

I've written this here before but there's a theory in sportswriting that the smaller the ball, the better the story. Although it's not a universal truth there's something to it.

But, as Adrian Monk would say, "Here's the thing." The best sports story I think I've ever read didn't have a ball in it at all. It was William Nack's paean to Triple Crown winner Secretariat. Read it HERE.

Green Alert Take: The last time I posted a link to this story you took a look and decided it was too long to read, right? Unfortunately, you now have the time. Read it. You'll be glad I badgered you into spending the time and I wouldn't be surprised if you end up with a tear in your eye. About a horse. ...

Speaking of the Derby, in the ongoing effort to find sports broadcasting NBC showed a virtual showdown of Triple Crown winners yesterday. I hadn't seen it before this morning and will admit I watched with interest while rooting for Big Red:

EXTRA POINT

If  you ever visited a U.S. National Park with kids they may have participated in the wonderful Junior Ranger Program. I know ours did. For that matter, you may have become a Junior Ranger because there's actually no age limit.

After accomplishing certain goals and filling out a workbook, Junior Rangers receive a badge similar to the one above. Except, look closer at this one. It says "Couch" Ranger, and Department of the "Home" Interior with the silhouette of a bison inside a TV set. It's part of a fundraising initiative by the Association of National Park Rangers and if you are a regular visitor to this site you know BGA has a soft spot for NPS Park Rangers.

Here's That Certain Dartmouth '14 presenting a real Junior Ranger badge in a PR photo taken at park headquarters when she was stationed at Yellowstone during the park centennial:
