Coach Hank

Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens was pretty sure he hit a home run when he hired untested Cortez Hankton as wide receivers coach in 2012 and it turned out he was right. Hankton was both successful in developing All-Ivy receivers and hugely popular in Hanover before being scooped up by Vanderbilt after three years with the Big Green.

From Vandy it was on to Georgia, where last year he earned a national championship ring. The New Orleans native has since been hired away by home state LSU.

Recognized earlier this year on the FootballScoop Minority Watch List/Rising Stars (LINK) he now shows up on ESPN's 45 minority coaches under 45 to watch for future Division I head-coaching jobs. His capsule in the story (LINK):

Age: 41

After a nine-year career in the NFL and United Football League, Hankton has quickly risen as a receivers coach and makes his third SEC stop after Georgia and Vanderbilt. The New Orleans native is an accomplished recruiter who developed several strong wideouts at Georgia. Hankton's impact at LSU, his home-state school, will shape his head-coaching candidate profile.

Hankton is featured along with his brother Cordae in a story today in Baton Rouge's The Advocate (LINK).

Former Dartmouth nickel John Pupel opted to graduate this spring and identify himself on his Twitter account as a grad transfer. While the two-year starter did not update his account with the usual list of offers, he recently replaced the picture atop his Twitter with a Boston College logo.

A little checking confirmed his intention to use his grad transfer year as a walk-on with the BC football team with the possibility of a redshirt year as well. Find his Dartmouth highlight video HERE

Green Alert Take: Pupel is an old-school hitter on the football field. If he shows the Eagles' staff what he showed with the Big Green he can be a major contributor on special teams if nowhere else.

The latest graphic from the Dartmouth football office welcoming the incoming freshmen concerns Logan Klitsch, a 6-foot-3, 190-pound quarterback from Conrad Weiser High School in Robesonia, Pa.

At least one NFL fan is so excited about the upcoming season that he's counting down the days until the first game by posting photos of players from around the league. It's a little surprising who he picked for the 57-day mark but fans of Dartmouth grad and New York Giants edge rusher Niko Lalos '20 won't complain ;-)

The Analyst has a story headlined, NDSU, Coach Prime and 45 Numbers to Know for the 2022 FCS Season that includes two mentions of Dartmouth, under the number 9 and the number 150. Here they are (LINK):

9 – In its last nine seasons, at least two Ivy League teams have ranked in the top 20 in the nation in scoring defense, with Dartmouth and Harvard ending third and fifth, respectively, last season.

And . . .

150 – Dartmouth’s Buddy Teevens (148), Marist’s Jim Parady (147) and South Carolina State’s Buddy Pough (143) are nearing their 150th career coaching win.

Green Alert Take: What are the chances that two coaches who go by "Buddy" would hit 150 in the same year? Pretty good shot at least the first will make it ;-)

I stumbled across a couple of pieces of trivia today that might be of some interest.

First, it has now been 45 years since the historic IA-IAA split in college football. The Ivy League, of course, was relegated to IAA, the subdivision now known as the FCS. The IA has been rebranded as the FBS.

And second, an On3 story reports that roughly 45 percent of anticipated starting quarterbacks in the aforementioned FBS this year will be held down by transfers. Find a story HERE.

EXTRA POINT
Cruising my normal haunts looking for material of interest for you this morning I ended as I usually do on Twitter. For perhaps a half hour I tried to access the site only to be greeted by messages telling me it was "over capacity," and that "Something went wrong. Try reloading." On one attempt it came up and said, "It's not your fault." (Gee, thanks.)

I just checked Twitter one last time and it's back working . . .

Unfortunately ;-)
