Headline on a Dartmouth release (LINK):
Record Gift Will Enhance Athletic Excellence at Dartmouth; Stephen and Diana Lewinstein support Dartmouth’s Ivy League competitiveness
From that release:
The Lewinstein gift is The Call to Lead campaign’s capstone of major investments in Dartmouth Athletics, now totaling $178 million, far surpassing the original athletics goal of $90 million.
And this from Athletic Director Mike Harrity:
"This gift will help position our students, coaches, and staff to achieve our championship aspirations."
And this from Elizabeth Cahill Lempres, Board of Trustees Chair . . .
These investments, including this incredible vote of confidence by the Lewinsteins, will help us enhance our comprehensive roster of varsity teams – and win more games."
Easy to overlook in the release is that Alumni Gym will be renamed the Lewinstein Athletic Center and West Gym – which was home to the varsity basketball program before Leede Arena and now hosts an indoor running track and basketball courts – will be renamed Alumni Gym.
Green Alert Take: Rest assured of two things. First, the comments from Harrity and Lempres regarding wins and championship aspirations will be well-received. As for the renaming of the building, it will be some time before it becomes normal not to refer to the entire barn as "Alumni."

Green Alert Take: There's a lot of optimism that the new president will make a difference as Dartmouth tries to improve its athletic posture in the Ivy League. Having Sian Beilock address the athletic staff in the first week of her administration is a very good sign.

EXTRA POINT
With sun beating down on us during an astonishingly beautiful five-mile hike outside of Bryce Canyon yesterday, I broke out something given me a few years ago by the late football equipment manager Steve Ward, always a proud Marine. Semper Fi old friend and thanks for the sun protection!
