Dartmouth sports publicity has announced the hiring of Mitchell Thompson as its new wide receivers coach. The former Bates College assistant steps in for Dan Hebert, who departed after one season to become offensive coordinator/quarterback coach at Stonehill. Coach Sammy McCorkle quoted in the Dartmouth release (LINK) :
"We've known Mitchell since he was a high school player attending one of our camps and have enjoyed watching his coaching career develop. We’re excited to welcome him and his family to our program. Mitchell's energy and work ethic will be a great fit with our staff and players."
And this from Thompson:
"I am extremely excited to join the Dartmouth football program, and I'd like to thank Coach McCorkle, Coach Montgomery and the entire staff for giving me the opportunity to join the Dartmouth family. Dartmouth College is a special place with incredible tradition, and I look forward to doing everything I can to help our student-athletes continue to achieve success, both on and off the field."

The search for a new receivers coach was still going on when practice started two weeks ago. It culminated with the hiring of Mitchell Thompson, previously the offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach at Division III Bates College. He was on Memorial Field running his new charges through their drills on Saturday.
"I've known him for a number of years," McCorkle said. "He's worked our camps, and I have always thought highly of him. He's a hard worker, a bright guy, a very good recruiter, and I'm super excited about getting him.
"I think he's going to fit in with no problem at all. Our entire football staff was very impressed by him during the interview process, and we're excited to have him join us.”
Thompson was a standout player at Washington & Lee before graduating in 2014. He spent seven years on staff at Amherst and coached one season at Oberlin before arriving at Bates.

Great news for Patriot League football.
One year after announcing the addition of Richmond to its collection of highly selective schools, the Ivy League's peer conference said this week that William & Mary will be moving its football program from the CAA to the Patriot starting in 2026. W&M Athletic Director Brian Mann, the former Dartmouth quarterback and athletic administrator, had this to say on his school’s website (LINK):
"Moving football to the Patriot League is a strategic decision that will align our program with other schools that play competitive football in a strong FCS conference with student-athletes who achieve at the highest level. Joining a conference with Richmond, with whom we have a football rivalry encompassing 135 games, is another tremendous benefit. We can look forward to closing each football season with Richmond in the battle for the Capital Cup in front of cheering alumni, friends, and fans."
Richmond will begin Patriot League football this fall, and William & Mary the next.
Green Alert Take: With Richmond and William & Mary football departing the CAA for the Patriot League there is considerable speculation that Villanova will be next to make the move and fill out the PL dance card with 10 teams. ‘Nova would be a seamless fit for the Patriot League.
Green Alert Take II: Should the Patriot play a full round-robin schedule and eventually add Villanova, Ivy League schools that have relied on PL schools to fill their nonconference schedule with like-minded schools may unfortunately have to look elsewhere.
