Dartmouth Football South

As expected, the Dartmouth-UMass football connection has grown even stronger:

That comes just as the UMass spring transfer tracker offered an update on the most recent Dartmouth player to join the Minutemen prior to Farris. Click HERE for a lengthy look at former Big Green (and McNeese State) linebacker Marques White.

The list of Dartmouth graduates suiting up at Massachusetts this fall:

• Kyle Brown, offensive line

• Zach Farris, corner

• Alex Geraci, tight end

• Marques White, linebacker

They were preceded, of course, by linebackers Jalen Mackie and Macklin Ayers, who both completed their college careers at UMass.

Still another former Dartmouth player who grad transferred is in the news. Robbie Mangas ’22, a Big Green tight end and team captain before playing and coaching at Buffalo, is looking to show his recruiting chops in his first year on staff at Marist:

EXTRA POINT

When we lived in the rural Etna area of Hanover, our house was on nine acres of land, but most of it was wooded. Here on our beautiful Vermont hillside we have just six acres, but most of it is open. Translation: There’s a lot of mowing to do to keep the place from turning into a jungle.

Our electric tractor is a marvel of engineering that can mow two acres before needing to recharge. The problem, which I learned the hard way, is that running the thing until the batteries drain severely diminishes the lifespan of the batteries. An expensive lesson learned, these days I head back to the garage to recharge when the batteries drop below 50 percent.

When the grass is dry and not too long, I can still get a lot of it cut. But when it rains the way it did for much of the last week and I’m out of town as I was for four days, it’s pretty much the Golden Gate Bridge syndrome. You are probably familiar with the urban legend about how when painters finally make to the other end of the bridge to first part of the bridge is already due to be repainted.

I’ll finish the last touches of the lawn today, weed-whacking around the apple and ornamental trees, under the lilac row and at the base of the fir trees. It will be a relief to have it all done, but as I look out the window the dandelions starting to pop up in the field are taunting me with the knowledge that it’s just about time to start over. And that’s not urban legend.
