Countdown To Homecoming

The BGA Overtime Dartmouth-Yale preview will go up later today. In the meantime, there are three Ivy League games tonight:

Cornell at Harvard, 7 p.m. (ESPNU)

Marist at Penn, 7 p.m. (ESPN+)

Brown at Bryant, 7 p.m. (FloCollege)

College sports continues trending away from being college sports. From an NCAA release headlined DI Administrative Committee introduces proposal for commercial logos on uniforms, apparel and equipment (LINK):

The Division I Administrative Committee on Wednesday introduced a proposal that would modify rules for commercial logos on student-athletes' equipment, uniforms and apparel for non-NCAA championship competition. 

Under existing NCAA rules, the only commercial logo permitted on student-athletes' equipment or apparel during regular-season games is the logo of the equipment or apparel manufacturer. 

If the proposal is ultimately adopted, schools could place two additional commercial logos on uniforms and pregame/postgame apparel during non-NCAA championship competition. Further, one additional commercial logo would be permitted on equipment used by student-athletes.

And finally, a Dartmouth alum and true fan has been sending tongue-in-cheek AI generated emails this way, and that got me wondering how AI would do if I requested a poem about a Dartmouth Homecoming without the bonfire, written in the manner of Robert Frost. This took about 45 seconds to pop on my screen – and yes that's scary. ;-)

The Woods Still Burn

No bonfire flared on Friday night,

The drought had dimmed the flame’s delight.

Yet still the Green found ways to glow—

A thousand lights, soft row on row.


By Saturday, the skies were clear,

The air was crisp, the crowd drew near.

In The Woods, where echoes play,

The Big Green took the field that day.


The lines held strong, the passes flew,

Each tackle thudded, firm and true.

Yale’s pride came north, but met instead

A deeper root, a steadier tread. 

No firewood burned, no embers spun,

Yet hearts blazed bright when day was done.

For though the drought restrained the pyre,

The Woods still burned with Dartmouth fire.

EXTRA POINT

I took a quick dip in our nearby lake on Monday. This morning when I went downstairs the thermometer read 23.9 degrees. I still not be jumping in the lake this afternoon.
