A site called Pro Football Network began a piece a few days ago this way:
The Los Angeles Rams begin training camp next week. Every season an unexpected player or two makes the final roster. Last season that list included running back Justin Davis, tight end Johnny Mundt, and linebacker Bryce Hager. Below are five players who would be considered a surprise if they made the final-53.The five players under-the-radar players they write about:
Tight end Keenen Brown out of Texas State
Wide receiver Nsimba Webster out of Eastern Washington
Running back Matt Colburn out of Wake Forest
Linebacker Natrez Patrick out of Georgia
and . . .
6-foot-7, 325-pound offensive tackle Matt Kaskey out of Dartmouth.

Dartmouth coach Buddy Teevens' stint as head coach at Stanford didn't go the way he wanted but as his return to Hanover showed, maybe he just needed more time. As he has at Dartmouth, Teevens proved when he was in Palo Alto (as he did bringing in players who would help long-suffering Tulane go undefeated) that he can recruit talent.A story on The Bootleg site under the headline The Top 10 Highest-Rated Stanford Football Commits Of All Time includes two Teevens recruits:
• Julian Jenkins, a five-star defensive end from Atlanta and Woodward Academy. (That's the school, by the way, that sent Greg Patton '13 to Dartmouth. Patton went on to set the since-broken Dartmouth school record with 243 rushing yards in 2009.)
• Five-star quarterback Trent Edwards of Los Gatos, Calif. (Edwards went on to spend five seasons in the NFL before helping to co-found the STRIVR virtual reality system that brought him to Hanover several years ago.)
