Don't Miss This One

ESPN writes about Russell Wilson and "Harry B," his two-sport Dartmouth dad who helped shape him into the player and person he is today (LINK):

No take-outs today. The entire story is required reading. There will be a quiz. Read it!

Editor's Note: True confession time. I was tempted to hold back linking to this story for one more day just to see how many more people would email me the link ;-) Seriously, thanks to everyone who passes along stories of interest when they come across them. I spend way, way too much time digging for material I hope you will find interesting, but I can't find them all and your help is always appreciated.
Breaking news this morning that Penn State linebacker Micah Parsons, who would absolutely have been in the discussion for the best defensive player in the country this fall, is going to sit his junior season out as a precaution and instead prepare for the NFL draft. (LINK)

Green Alert Take: As a Penn Stater, that news stings. But you can't blame him. Read on.
Headline in a story on the Stadium site: Sources: Idaho Football Players Don’t Want to Play This Fall. From the story (LINK):
"I know that this will get drastically worse as the season progresses and I know in my heart it’s not the morally correct thing to do,” a player said. “We feel we have been neglected by the NCAA in terms of wealth over health.”
Green Alert Take: Hard to believe in the world of NCAA football the players are the only adults in the room. Read on.
A Facebook post by mother of Indiana freshman offensive lineman:
Green Alert Take: In case you skimmed over that, and I hope you didn't, here's the mother's bottom line: "Even if your son’s schools to everything right to protect them, they CAN’T PROTECT THEM!! " Read on.

Sports Illustrated has a story HERE.
From a story in The Dartmouth under the headline, Fall classes to be mostly online due to equity concerns, logistical issues (LINK):
Students on campus hoping to take a mix of classes, however, may find their options limited. 997 classes are being offered this fall, 99 less than the 1,096 offered last fall, according to the College’s academic timetable. Of those, 645 are being offered remotely with synchronous components, 74 are remote with optional on-campus components, 41 are remote and entirely asynchronous, and 23 are on campus. An additional 207 are individualized study courses, and seven courses do not have a delivery method listed on the timetable.
From a story in the Valley News (LINK):
Selectboards in Hanover and Enfield voted Monday night to adopt temporary regulations calling on people to wear masks inside businesses and in heavily trafficked areas. That includes sidewalks and trails surrounding downtown Hanover.
And . . .
Outdoor mask-wearing in Hanover will be required in several zoning districts, which run roughly from the Ledyard Bridge to the west to Etna Village in the east, and the Lebanon-Hanover line in the south up to Wilson’s Landing on Route 10 in the north.
But (town manager Julia) Griffin said the mandate won’t be actively enforced unless there are problems social distancing.
“If you’re taking a walk around Occom Pond, if you’re walking up East Wheelock and there’s nobody in sight, then a mask isn’t required,” she said.
A Valley News columnist has a piece under the headline, Hanover residents want the college town without the college students. (LINK

Green Alert Take: A popular saying around here when people moan about the college is, "Take Dartmouth out of Hanover and it is (fill in the blank with the name of any run-down former mill town).
EXTRA POINT
Spotted this on the Dartmouth football Instagram page:

Let's see a show of hands. How many of you have ever heard of Warren Falls? Me neither. Looks like a nice place but it's almost a 90-minute drive from the college (LINK).
