“Twenty-eight thousand persons, thrilled and delighted, spontaneously jumped to their feet five minutes after the Dartmouth-Washington football game opened yesterday, when Bob Abel, Washington, sifted through the sturdy Green line, threw himself recklessly in front of the ball rising from the cleated toe of Jim Robertson, Dartmouth, stopped its flight with his chest, pursued the bounding ball and then — while the great crowd in one grand salvo of applause spurred him on — scooped it from the clay and dashed 63 yards for a touchdown — the first to be made in the Stadium, the greatest football plant in the west,” wrote The Seattle Times on Nov. 28, 1920. “It was Washington’s one golden gleam in a 28 to 7 defeat.

The changing nature of football has led to most of Dartmouth's passing and receiving records being set after the year 2000. Conversely, every single-game tackle record was set before 2000. Here are the Top Tackle Games in Dartmouth history*:

EXTRA POINT
Living up to the motto "The show must go on," the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade was broadcast live from New York City yesterday morning. Make that broadcast somewhat live. The TV presentation wove together clips of balloons from previous parades, pre-recorded songs from Dolly Parton and several others, and the usual live and lip-synched performances. It was more of a TV show than a parade, but that's pretty much par for the course because over time the Macy's extravaganza has morphed from a parade into a series of performances in front of the iconic storefront.
I don't know about you, but I'll take the Rose Parade 100 times out of 100 and not just because of the magnificent floats. Because it's actually a parade.
