The Pioneer Football League, which features 2021 Dartmouth opponent Valparaiso as well as former opponents Marist, Butler and Stetson, has announced it will play a six-game conference season in the spring, and allow teams to schedule nonconference games independently. From a league release (LINK):
"The League fully recognizes that this is an aspirational plan given the current severe state of the coronavirus pandemic and the many unknowns in the coming months for the country, the diverse set of states in which our schools exist, and the PFL institutions themselves.  Consequently, individual institutions may, at their sole discretion, choose to opt out of the PFL 2021 spring season at any time."

With the announcement from the PFL, the Patriot League and the Northeast Conference are the last two FCS leagues to yet reveal their plans.

Green Alert Take: Valparaiso and New Hampshire, two of Dartmouth's three nonconference opponents for 2021, are set to play this spring. (Sacred Heart of the Northeast Conference is the third Dartmouth opponent in the fall.) The opportunity to play a handful or more games will provide a significant advantage to Valpo and UNH come fall, dependent on injuries and recovery. As it stands now, Ivy League teams will have just their normal 12 spring practices.

New Hampshire, by the way, has scheduled another FBS money game, agreeing to play at Central Michigan on Sept. 9, 2023, for a $350,000 guarantee. Dartmouth will open that season at UNH on Sept. 16.

It will be the third game between New Hampshire and Central Michigan with the previous two being narrow losses for the Wildcats (24-21 in 2013 and 40-33 in 2003).

EXTRA POINT

Look, I totally understand why tamper-proof food, drink and drug containers were introduced after the 1982 Tylenol poisonings. Safety is important.

But sometimes it gets taken a little too far.

True story. Yesterday morning before I could enjoy a bowl of corn flakes I actually had to dig out a pair of pliers to grab a tiny foil tab and pull off the liner sealing off the top of a new jug of almond milk.
