Two troubling stories involving Dartmouth athletics are in the news and in the interest of transparency they need to be included here:
The Valley News has a piece under the headline Dartmouth football player alleges bias. racial discrimination in sex assault case. No names appear in the story. (LINK)
An outlet called Global Golf Post has a story headlined Dartmouth Golf Elimination A Sad And Shocking Story. (LINK)
•
Craig Haley over at STATS has a story under the headline NFL reaps rewards of Harvard's tight end factory about FCS players selected for the Pro Bowl. (LINK)
Two former Harvard tight ends have been selected to the Pro Bowl (49ers' Kyle Juszczyk and Seahawks' Tyler Ott), another is in the Super Bowl (Bucs' Cameron Brate) and still another appeared in the playoffs (Titans' Anthony Firkser).
From the story:
The foursome developed under Murphy, who's not only the Crimson's head coach for the last 26 seasons, but also their tight ends and H-backs coach.
"Our tight ends in our system have to be versatile and mentally and physically tough enough to move around and play tight end, fullback, H-back, wide, slot and tight receiver," Murphy said.
"We call them the SEALS in our offense as the toughest most versatile guys on our team.
"That versatility and tremendous character has allowed them to compete at the highest level in the NFL."
•
Add past-and-future Dartmouth opponent Central Connecticut to the list of FCS schools that will not compete in the spring football season. The Blue Devils make it 31 of 127 FCS members who are opting out. From a CCSU release (LINK):
"We believe it is in the best interest of our University and football program to forego football competition this spring," interim Director of Athletics Tom Pincince said today. "This decision was not an easy one, and we realize our student-athletes, coaches, and fans may be disappointed. To ensure the health and safety of our student-athletes and to best prepare for Fall 2021, our team will partake in their traditional spring practice, with the goal of entering the Fall 2021 season prepared to compete for another NEC title."

EXTRA POINT
Our local NBC affiliate will occasionally use a blurry circle to obscure the point of a needle puncturing the skin in coverage of Pfizer and Moderna vaccinations. As someone who is notoriously averse to blood I have no problem with that.
But I do have to laugh.
I mean, after our local station blurs out the shots the network news comes on and if it doesn't show a half dozen arms being punctured every single night it's because it is showing a dozen. And it can be even worse if/when we tune in to a cable news network.
Honestly, now that Mrs. BGA has had her two shots the next shot I need to see at this point is the first one that goes into my arm. Not that I'm going to actually watch that one, either ;-)
Oh, and for those of you asking, Mrs. BGA had virtually no reaction to her second Pfizer dose. Maybe a little headache, but as someone who is no stranger to heachaches, she wouldn't swear that it had anything to do with the vaccination.
