First Of A Few On The Way

With the traditional February Signing Day one week from tomorrow the Dartmouth recruiting class figures to swell with a handful of new names surfacing, starting with a commitment tweet from offensive lineman Tristan Holmbeck of Philadelphia's Springside Chestnut Hill Academy.

Holmbeck is listed at a shade under 6-foot-4 and weighed in at 272 pounds at his "virtual combine" (below). In an EasternPAFootball preview of top players his coach said of him:

Tristan is an extremely hard working, high character and motivated student athlete. He combines excellent size, toughness, and athleticism for an Offensive Lineman. Since last season he has grown 2 inches and added 30 pounds of muscle. He is also just recently turned 17, so his best football is ahead of him. I am really excited to see him on the field this year.

His Twitter feed shows interest from a selection of Ivies and lists offers from Trinity and Lake Erie. Find highlight videos HERE.

It's unofficial but College Football News has posted this year's Coaches Poll/UPI Final Rankings Greatest Teams Of All-Time. (LINK

Four Ivy League teams make the cut – including Dartmouth – but it's probably not the four you would expect. First, the Top-10 all-time:

Oklahoma
2 Ohio State
3 Alabama
4 Michigan
5 Nebraska
5 USC
7 Notre Dame
8 Penn State
9 Texas
10 Florida State

And the Ivy schools that are listed?

70 Princeton
89 Yale
90 Dartmouth
110 Cornell

Green Alert Take: The big surprise might be Cornell being included while Penn is not.
Dartmouth freshman receiver Isaac Boston is interviewed in this Western Massachusetts TV report about athletes staying in shape in this year of the pandemic. Boston shows up at 15 seconds, 40 seconds and for a longer period at the 1:35 mark.

No football players are mentioned but The Dartmouth has a story under the headline, Amid winter sports cancellation, athletes search for new ways to spend time. (LINK)
EXTRA POINT
Yesterday was a bluebird of a day here in Vermont and it sent me out to grab a pic of the new snow on Mount Moosilauke, "the spiritual home of Dartmouth out-of-doors."

Click the photo and (if you are on a Mac click it again) to supersize it for a good look at the mountain. (That's the BGA World Headquarters to the left and the black rectangle is our "solar tracker.")
