From a story that popped up on the web last week under the headline, 5 Unique Places to Ring in the New Year:
1. Hiking in the Grand Canyon
Among the most unique experiences that you can take part of on New Year’s is the trails and views of the Grand Canyon. Stay at one the yurts on the North Rim or set up camp after getting your permit. There’s plenty of things to do and enjoy from the snow covered canyon to hiking along the Kaibab Plateau trail, which weaves through lofty peaks and isolated gorges or the Boucher Trail. They also do tours by Jeep through the Canyon so you can enjoy and see all of it even if your trip is short. Enjoy it with the whole family with this special for up to 16 members.
That Certain Dartmouth '14 didn't need the tip about welcoming 2021 in Grand Canyon. For the second time in recent years she pitched a tent and spent New Year's Eve somewhere below the rim thanks to a friend who scored a camping permit. With her backpacking tent and the wide-open spaces it was a wonderful, peaceful and dramatically socially distanced way to celebrate the flipping of the calendar.
It was at Grand Canyon by the way (where she was on staff several years ago) that the seeds of becoming a ranger were planted in no small part by an inspiring campfire talk by a ranger named Pam Cox when TCD'14 was just finishing middle school.
