Comings And Goings

FOX 59 out of Indianapolis has a video and story about incoming twin recruits Josiah and Micah Green, who will line up on the defensive side of the ball for Dartmouth. Josiah (6-foot-2, 240 pounds) and Micah (6-1, 220) are seniors at North Central High School in Indy.

While TV is sharing a story about two defenders coming to Dartmouth, the social networking video service TikTok is celebrating a former Big Green defensive player coming off his rookie year with the New York Giants. (You might have to do a secondary click to get the video to play and it is helpful to set it to full screen.)

If that didn't work for you, the original clip can be found HERE.
That sure didn't take long. Here's a screenshot from the staff directory for Dartmouth athletics ... and there could be more changes in store:

Curious about the New Hampshire team that Dartmouth is scheduled to face on Oct. 16? STATS has a preview of the CAA spring season that includes this on the Wildcats (LINK):
(Coach Sean) McDonnell, a two-time recipient of the Stats Perform FCS Eddie Robinson Award, has returned from medical leave after assistant Ricky Santos led an encouraging 2019 campaign as interim coach. That team had a lot of young talent, including quarterback Max Brosmer, running back Carlos Washington Jr., offensive lineman Patrick Flynn and defensive lineman Niko Kvietkus. But UNH's best player is safety Evan Horn, who decided to remain in the program after entering the NCAA transfer portal. The Wildcats were the CAA's lowest-scoring team (20.2-point average) in 2019, so improvement is needed offensively.

Perhaps I'm reading this story from The Dartmouth wrong but is it really possible a freshman from Kansas will actually finish her freshman year without ever having set foot in Hanover? I mean, not even visiting campus before being accepted? I guess so. From the story (LINK):

Zhory May ’24 is living at home with her family in Kansas. She stayed home in the fall term and plans to continue remotely in the spring.

“I would say I feel pretty detached from the Dartmouth environment,” May said. “I’ve actually never been to campus before. I applied and was going to do a campus tour, but because of COVID it was canceled. I didn’t feel like it was safe to go to campus during the fall, so I stayed home.”

Green Alert Take: You can read all you want about Dartmouth students having just one of their three quarters a year on campus but this really puts things in perspective. Might as well be a student at the University of Phoenix.

EXTRA POINT
I'm going to get a little geeky here, so I apologize in advance.

I read yesterday about the free LastPass password manager changing its business model and charging for synching passwords between devices. That led me to pull up all of the passwords I have saved for various email accounts, online subscriptions, web pages and the like. It turns out I have 282 saved passwords.

Can I remember them all? Of course not, thanks in part to making them unique and hard to crack, which you should as well.

How do I manage? I use both LastPass and 1Password, which work in similar ways. With each, you have a single (hopefully difficult to guess) password that unlocks an app storing your username and password for each of the sites you visit, and then painlessly autofills the details in. It can even generate passwords for you, as I did just now to come up with this one: }z2fiTttV@dtP. Go ahead, try to remember that one!

This is not a paid endorsement for a password manager but it is a recommendation that you think about using one. LastPass, 1Password and Dashlane are modestly priced and well worth the money. Google 'em up, watch a YouTube review or two, and consider trying one out.

And if you do, you won't have to send me an email in September asking for the password to your BGA Premium account. But don't be a stranger ;-)
