A Job Well Done

Former All-Ivy League offensive lineman Mike McCune '92, has stepped down from his position as sports director at WCAX, the CBS television affiliate in Burlington, Vt., to spend more time with his family. McCune, who started at the station in 1999, has been the award-winning sports director since 2008. Click the screen grab above to watch his emotional goodbye.

Here's McCune's Dartmouth football bio as a senior:

Green Alert Take: Hey Mike, I'm not going to let you off the hook that easy. You still owe me for steering you up there ;-)

The video series from Dartmouth football about the incoming freshmen continues with an introduction to Jordan Washington, a 6-foot-1, 185-pound defensive back from Escondido, Calif., and JSerra High School. Watch it HERE.

A story in Houma Today lists every quarterback who will be at the Manning Passing Academy this weekend and once again Dartmouth head coach Buddy Teevens' role at the premier camp in the country paid dividends with the Big Green's Derek Kyler in Thibodaux, La., today through Sunday. He's joined by wide receiver Jarmone Sutherland '24 (a former target of high school phenom Arch Manning at Isidore Newman School) and Brown quarterback EJ Perry.

Also at the MPA this year is Missouri quarterback Connor Bazelak, whose father, Len '88, has the highest career 3-point shooting percentage in Dartmouth basketball history at .466.

Back to Brown quarterback EJ Perry, he's understandably at the center of a story in the Brown Herald looking at the team's prospects this fall. The story notes that Brown will have "a veteran squad of more than 10 graduate student-athletes." (LINK

Green Alert Take: With Brown's official roster listing one graduate student and 27 seniors it's clear the line of demarcation between traditional medical redshirt fifth-year seniors, COVID fifth-year seniors and graduate students is going to be, well, unclear this fall.

This is kind of strange. An Ivy League player who will be on the field this fall has already committed to play elsewhere as a grad transfer after collecting his diploma next spring.

Following in the footsteps of former Harvard teammate Eric Wilson, now a grad transfer offensive lineman at Penn State, 6-foot-6, 295-pound rising senior Spencer Rolland has announced he will play for the Nittany Lions in 2022. From a story on the 247sports website (LINK):

There is a unique dynamic to this development since Rolland will still play out the upcoming season at Harvard. He is on track to graduate from that university next May, and would then head to Happy Valley with two years of remaining collegiate eligibility.

The story notes that coming out of high school, "His other Ivy League options included Brown and Dartmouth."

EXTRA POINT
You'd think I would have learned by now.

After returning from my hike early this morning, I did what I do every day and hustled up to the BGA World Headquarters to continue pulling together BGA Daily.

And as happens sometimes as many as three times a week, I was sitting at the keyboard when I heard a beep downstairs. The announcement from our robo vacuum cleaner that it was about to commence its morning work sent me scurrying downstairs to close doors, make sure a USB charging cord isn't going to strangle the vac, and to pick dog toys up off the floor.

Some mornings I do all that before setting off on my hike. Some days I do those things when I get back. But it seems as if more days than not I'm sitting here pecking away until that beep reminds me that, dagnabbit, I forgot . . . again.
