Speaking of records, Stanford had a 25-year run of championships in the NACDA Learfield IMG College Directors' Cup snapped this spring by the University of Texas. The Cardinal has won the Cup, billed as identifying the country's most successful athletic program, every year but the first (North Carolina win it in 1993-94) and the latest.

The DIII Cup was not awarded this year but Williams has won it 23 of the 25 times it has been handed out, with fellow NESCAC member Middlebury winning it once and US San Diego the other time.

I didn't watch this whole 49-minute "virtual walking tour" of the Dartmouth campus posted several days ago but I did scrub through it and unless I miss my bet, the entire athletic complex was ignored. Disappointing.

On the subject of Dartmouth's athletic facilities, the law of unintended consequences might be kicking in. The local Valley News has a story under the headline, Hanover considers taxing college’s golf course property, which has been exempt (LINK).

EXTRA POINT
As I have been doing almost every day since spring, I headed out for my daily hike up the mountain a few minutes after 6 this morning. It was sprinkling and so at the trailhead I took a good look at the light raincoat I had in the car and knew I had to make a decision.

It would be a classic Catch-22.

If I didn't wear the raincoat I was going to get wet. But if I wore the rain jacket and pushed hard on the trail I was going to work up a pretty good sweat under it and get wet.

After mulling it over, I chose to wear the rain jacket.

As it turned out there was no right answer.

In no small part because the waterproof membrane on the inside of the jacket was shredding, I got soaked both by the rain and with sweat.
