Howdy, Pardner

Joining the recruiting class for Dartmouth is Joe Onuwabhagbe, a 6-foot-2½, 260-pound defensive lineman from Hebron High School in Carrollton, Texas. He Tweeted his commitment HERE:

Per 247Sports Onuwabhagbe was offered by Air Force and Lafayette. (LINK)

BGA's crack researcher shared a link to the latest projection of the New York Giants roster per SB Nation's Big Blue View and the opinion about Dartmouth's Niko Lalos '20 is mixed. Directly from the site (LINK):

Edge (6)

Current roster: Lorenzo Carter, Azeez Ojulari, Ifeadi Odenigbo, Ryan Anderson, Oshane Ximines, Elerson Smith, Cam Brown, Niko Lalos, Trent Harris

In: Carter, Ojulari, Odenigbo, Ximines, Smith, Brown
Out: Anderson, Lalos (PS), Harris (PS)
Lalos did a nice job against the Jets in the first preseason game. I won’t be surprised at all if he makes the roster. To me, it’s Lalos or Ximines — unless there is an injury. As of now, draft pick wins and undrafted player goes to the practice squad.

I’m sure those of you are Lalos fans are going to enjoy gleefully throwing these predictions in my face if he does make the roster.

Green Alert Take: The two turnovers last season and his unlikely rise from undrafted Ivy League free agent to practice squad to active team member to contributing player have turned the former Dartmouth defensive end into a bit of a folk hero down in Gotham.

Need a quick lesson in the history of the Ivy League? You've come to the right place, but don't buy this graphic:

This graphic I had never seen before is from the same video:

If you've ever driven from Hanover to Philadelphia you aren't buying the absolute travel times on this chart from the video but it's interesting for comparative travel times. Add up the estimated time each school has to spend on the road to play at the others in the Ivy League and the totals come up like this:

1. Yale 18 hours, 30 minutes.
2. Columbia 19:30
3. Princeton 21:45
4. Brown 22:45
5. Harvard 23:45
6. Penn 25:00
7. Dartmouth 29:00
8. Cornell 33:15

Last week BGA Daily noted that Tulane had become the first FBS program in the country to require fans to be vaccinated and wear a mask to attend games this fall.

Yesterday's posting mentioned Oregon State requiring fans to wear masks regardless of vaccination status.

Today there's this from CBS Sports (LINK):

Fans of the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors won't be able to attend their school's season-opening events, including the game against Portland State on Sept. 4, due to COVID-19 concerns. The instructions from city and county officials are a result of the recent rise in cases and overwhelmed hospital capacities on the islands.

That story also included this:

The school says that the decision will be re-evaluated in the "coming weeks."

Green Alert Take: What's next?

EXTRA POINT
Mrs. BGA and I had our wedding reception all these years ago on a boat. We've celebrated every year since by having our anniversary dinner either on the water (dinner cruises on New Hampshire or Vermont lakes) or in view of the water. Last year? In the midst of the pandemic we settled for cooking out at an isolated boat launch on the Connecticut River and shooting a picture of ourselves in a scuttled rowboat used as a sandbox in a playground at the launch. Yeah, that was 2020 in a nutshell.

Our actual anniversary was two weeks ago but life gets in the way and we weren't able to celebrate in our normal fashion. With Dartmouth football preseason starting tomorrow and things getting crazy for me, I'm hustling to finish my opponent preview series with a look at Princeton tonight and at and Yale tomorrow. That means to be able to break free for our delayed anniversary celebration today I have to wrap up the Princeton preview first. That meant pulling BGA Daily together early and then jumping back into this evening's BGA Premium posting. All of which meant I couldn't give up the time hiking this a.m.

Now I better get back to that Princeton preview or our dinner near the water will be in trouble . . .
