A Slow News Day

Noon Update: This is what I get for spending all of my time formatting the stats moved over from the Ivy League page and not paying attention to what they actually say. Thanks to those who pointed out the errors. (And I really think the Ivy League ought to take down the page with the mistakes ;-)

#

The Analyst has a piece headlined, Where Conference Titles Races and Postseason Bids Stand in the FCS. The Ivy League is involved with half of that. From the story (LINK):

The season ends on Saturday. Dartmouth (8-1, 5-1) and Princeton (8-1, 5-1) are tied atop the standings and face Cornell and Penn (both 1-5 in league), respectively, so it’s likely they will share the title. The Harvard-Yale winner would earn a share of the title only if both co-leaders lose their games.

The story notes that Dartmouth opponent Sacred Heart has already clinched a share of the NEC title while old friend Holy Cross has run away with Patriot League and earned the automatic qualifier.

ESPN has one of those ridiculous automated previews of Dartmouth-Brown HERE.

Dickie V (Dick Vitale) leads off an ESPN college basketball piece headlined Vitale: Ivy League up, ACC with concerns as part of surprising first week with Dartmouth's big win over Georgetown. The page is topped by a picture of Dartmouth players celebrating at Georgetown. (LINK)

And finally, a sad note. John Currier '79, the research engineer and classmate Buddy Teevens turned to when he had the idea for the MVP robotic tackling dummy, has died at age 64 after a lengthy battle with cancer. I first met John long before I started BGA and can tell you he was as nice and as genuine a person as you would ever be lucky enough to meet.

Until this fall John would make periodic visits to practice and it was always heartwarming to see confident upperclass engineering majors he had unofficially counseled as naive freshmen flock to him. I feel lucky to have known him and to call him a friend.

Thayer School's Dartmouth Engineering site has an appreciation HERE.

EXTRA POINT
I got an email the other day that the rugs for the great room and den were ready to be installed and that I could pick up the blue lamps for the den. Except, here's the deal: We don't have a great room, we're not having carpet installed and blue lamps sound hideous.

Someone with a very similar email address apparently has sloppy enough handwriting that I get an email or two meant for him every few months. I've been able to ascertain that he lives in a tony Connecticut community and has a house in Florida. I know what hotel chain he prefers. He either has children or grandchildren and had a party for them at a Chuck E. Cheese-type place. Oh, and the Florida marine patrol or boat registration was sending him regular emails. Those are the emails I remember and there have been more.

If you have a more original name you don't have this problem. I guess it's what I get for being an early gmail adopter and not having to put  bunch of numbers after my name. Maybe I'll switch to my iCloud address. No one, I promise you, has an address anything like that one.

In the meantime, I hope the lamps and the carpet match.
