Weekend Wrap


Cornell 15, Penn 12
The Big Red (2-6, 1-4) got two touchdowns on the ground from new running quarterback Jameson Wang and did not allow Penn (3-5, 1-4) to score a touchdown on offense. The Quakers’ only touchdown came on a blocked punt return. Cornell had two touchdowns nullified by penalty. Attendance at Franklin Field was 5,142. 

Harvard 49, Columbia 21
The Crimson (6-2, 3-2) jumped out to a 35-0 halftime lead and cruised behind first-time starter Luke Emge, who tossed three touchdown passes. Harvard had a balanced attack with 266 yards through the air and 221 on the ground. The Columbia (5-3, 2-3) run game was limited to 49 yards. Attendance in New York City was 5,572.

Yale 63, Brown 38
The Bulldogs (5-3, 4-1) kept pace with Ivy League leaders Dartmouth and Princeton by breaking open a close game in the second half. Brown (2-6, 1-4) was within 35-28 at the break. Yale had touchdown passes of 65 and 61 yards, a 60-yard interception return for a score and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. Brown  quarterback EJ Perry caught a 64-yard touchdown pass. Attendance in Providence was listed as zero. 

Albany 20, New Hampshire  7
Karl Mofor ran a whopping 45 times for 222 yards as the Great Danes (1-8, 1-6) won for the first time and extended the UNH (3-6, 2-4) losing streak to six games. New Hampshire, which played without its two top running backs and gave a new quarterback his first career start, was limited to 35 yards rushing and 273 total yards. Dartmouth grad transfer Caylin Parker carried once for five yards for Albany. Attendance in New York’s capital city was 2,988.

Valparaiso 65, Presbyterian 55
Robert Washington ran for 234 yards and accounted for three of Valparaiso’s (3-6, 3-3) eight rushing touchdowns against the punt-averse Blue Hose (2-7, 0-6). Presbyterian, which led only at 8-0,  did actually punt three times and recorded 544 yards passing with seven touchdowns and three interceptions. Played before 1,223 in Valparaiso, the game lasted three hours, 49 minutes.

Sacred Heart 14, St. Francis 13
Julius Chestnut made his long-awaited return from injury and ran for 86 yards on 20 carries sharing time with Malik Grant, the nation’s leading rusher, who had 71 yards on 15 carries. The Pioneers (6-3, 4-1) won their fourth in a row when a St. Francis (4-5, 3-2) field goal attempt from 42 yards out sailed wide on the game's final play. The same kicker had already converted from 42 and 41 yards. Attendance in Loretto was 1,077.

EXTRA POINT
I think I have it figured out what time it is. I'll be headed outside shortly to see what the clock in the car we bought this summer says. I'm going to guess the time is correct because the car has some kind of limited wireless capability, even though I chose not to pay for it to be its own mobile hotspot. If the time isn't correct it could be an adventure changing it.

Have I told you how much I like my $25 analog watch? Pull out the crown (that's the round thing on the side with the ridges, kids), spin it to move the hands on the watch one hour, and pop the crown back in. Done.
