CHICAGO — Stats Perform today announced its FCS All-America Teams, and Dartmouth linebacker Jalen Mackie earned a spot on the third team. He joins teammate Jake Guidone as Big Green players to earn All-America accolades this postseason.
A 6-1, 240-pound senior from Miramar, Florida, Mackie was a force for the Big Green defensive unit, leading the league in tackles per game (9.6) with 86 stops in nine contests. He also had the most tackles for the Big Green seven times, including a career-high 13 against Columbia and again in the 31-7 victory over Princeton that pulled Dartmouth into a first-place tie with the Tigers. The two-time Ivy League Defensive Player of the Week added 8.0 tackles for a loss, 1.0 sacks, an interception that he returned 28 yards, two pass breakups and three quarterback hurries.
Princeton linebacker Jeremiah Tyler was named to the second team while Brown quarterback EJ Perry joins Mackie on the third team along with New Hampshire defensive lineman Josiah Silver, and the Sacred Heart duo of running back Malik Grant and offensive lineman JD DiRenzo.

How much movement is there in college football? Believe it or not, there were 27 former Notre Dame players suiting up for other Division I teams this fall. Rivals checked in on them to see how they did. (LINK)

The "winter surge" of COVID-19 has led to the cancellation of next month's Dartmouth Relays, one of the largest indoor track meets in the east. (LINK)
Green Alert Take: Already a victim of COVID is the New Hampshire high school indoor track season, which always culminated with the state championships at Leverone Field House. That Certain Dartmouth '14 earned 12 varsity letters in four sports at Hanover High School but Mrs. BGA and I both think the indoor meets and state meet at Leverone were the most fun we had watching her. It's totally understandable but sad that others won't have the same opportunities TCD'14 had to compete, and that we had to watch.

EXTRA POINT
It is the winter solstice but here's the confusing thing. Today is not the day the sun finally starts setting later. Nor is it the day the sun starts rising earlier.
The earliest sunset here in Newbury, Vt. was back on Dec. 8 when sol went over the edge at 4:42:38. The next day it was 4:42:40. Tonight's sunset is 4:45:57.
Sunrise today was 7:18:28. Tomorrow it will be 7:18:56 and on Christmas morning it will be 7:20:08. It will keep getting later until Jan. 2 when sunrise is 7:21:31. The next day it gets a little earlier – one second earlier to be precise – at 7:21:30.
The good news is that the shrinking amount of daylight reaches its zenith (nadir?) today. There will be 8:56:05 of available daylight here in Newbury today. Tomorrow there will be 8:56:08, three more seconds than today! Hey it's progress and THAT is what the winter solstice is all about ;-)
