OK, this one really, really surprised me.

Who had the top recruiting class among the 128 FCS schools listed above? Jackson State and Coach Deion Sanders, right?

Wrong.

The top class, not including transfers, belongs to . . . drumroll please . . . your Campbell Camels.

That's right. Campbell, which as recently as 2017 was still rubbing elbows with Valparaiso and Marist in the non-scholarship Pioneer Football League, came in at No. 88 nationally among all schools. The Fighting Camels ranked six spots ahead of Pac-12 member Washington, 19 spots ahead of UConn and 25 spots ahead of UMass. Jackson State, in case you were wondering, came in three slots below UMass.

Granted, these are the 247Sports recruiting rankings that I don't take very seriously, but still! How did Campbell do it? Find a story HERE.

Here's something we all (or almost all) missed in the Super Bowl. Watch closely and then watch again. Wow!

#

With the Super Bowl behind us the reborn United States Football League will kick off in mid-April featuring a roster of teams that will sound familiar – at least some of them will – to football fans of a certain age. The teams: New Jersey Generals, Philadelphia Stars, Birmingham Stallions, Houston Gamblers, Tampa Bay Bandits, Pittsburgh Maulers, Michigan Panthers and New Orleans Bandits.

All games will be played in Birmingham, Ala., over the 10-week season running from April 16 to July.

For the Ivy League products who might want to give the pro game a shot, here's the salary structure via the XFLnewshub (LINK):

•  Mini-camp/training camp $600/week
• Regular season active roster: $4,500/week
• Regular season non-active roster: $1,500/week
• Per Game Win Bonus for active roster: $850 per game
• Championship team bonus for active roster: $10,000

Oh, and USFL-designated housing at select hotels in season: Approximately $4,500/month.

EXTRA POINT
With football behind us, pitchers and catchers not reporting today because of the lockout, and plenty of cold weather still to come in these parts (9.5 below zero here this morning) Mrs. BGA and I dug out our DVD player over the weekend and hooked it up.

The first movie we dusted off and slid into the machine was Casablanca.

Might as well start at the top. The Humphrey Bogart-Ingrid Bergman vehicle came out in 1943 and watching it never gets old.
