Friday Wrap

From a Connecticut Signing Day story in the Hartford Courant (LINK):

Jake Guidone: The 6-3, 300-pound offensive lineman is a graduate transfer from Dartmouth. “He’s a man, understands how to take care of his business,” (UConn coach Jim) Mora said. “He has aspirations to go to the league, and he’s got the skill set. It’s my prediction he will be an NFL center.”

From a story on the Syracuse SI page headlined, By The Numbers: Syracuse Football Scholarship Update; How many spots are available for the Orange's 2022 roster? (LINK):

As it currently stands, Syracuse has 82 scholarships allotted for the 2022 season. The NCAA limit is 85, giving the Orange three scholarships to play with. We know Syracuse is after Dartmouth transfer defensive back Isaiah Johnson, who is deciding on February 7th. If Johnson picks Syracuse, it would leave the Orange with two scholarships available.

A story about Dartmouth recruit Sean Williams out of BGA (that's Tennessee's Battle Ground Academy, not Big Green Alert ;-) notes "He totaled 1,824 yards and 22 touchdowns on offense, averaged 26 yards per kickoff return on special teams and served as a lockdown safety on defense." (Thanks for the LINK.)

The story says he picked Dartmouth late over offers from Yale and from Vanderbilt as a preferred walk-on.

Former Dartmouth coaching assistant Jennifer King, who coached in the East-West Shrine Game this week:

And speaking of the East-West Shrine Game, I watched it on the NFL Network last night just to see how Brown's EJ Perry would play and he did not disappoint. Quite the opposite.

The fifth-year quarterback and Ivy League offensive player of the year got on the field for the first time at the start of the second half and proceeded to go 13-for-18 (with a drop) for 241 yards with three passing touchdowns and a pair of two-point conversion runs to earn game offensive MVP honors. Perry's heroics helped bring the East back from a 19-0 deficit with a chance to win if it could recover an onside kick at the end. The West prevailed 25-24. Find the box score for the game HERE.

Of note, Dartmouth's Jay Fiedler '94 was co-Offensive Player of the Game in the East-West in 1994.

Perry, by the way, also earned an invitation to the NFL Combine after opening eyes during East-West practices.

Three Ivy Leaguers are among the 22 players named to the offensive and defensive All-FCS NFL team per  The Analyst site. Chosen were (LINK):

• Fullback Kyle Juszczyk of Harvard and the 49ers. Juszczyk has been named to the Pro Bowl for the sixth year in a row.

• Center JC Tretter of Cornell and the Browns, who saw a streak of 79 consecutive starts end in mid-December.

• Linebacker Foye Oluokun of Yale and the Falcons was picked at linebacker after leading the NFL in tackles.

Green Alert Take: Nice to see an outlet naming just 11 players per unit instead of 15 or 20 ;-)

This is from an FCS Football Tweet. Discuss among yourselves:

SWAC member Alabama A&M announces 38-member signing class, including 35 transfers and Aleem Glass (yeah, we think you know the family name at A&M).

EXTRA POINT
It pales in comparison to what happened in Boston, but we got a foot of powder overnight and we're getting several more inches this morning. It's about time.
