Spun out of the huge impact 6-foot-10 forward Paul Atkinson has had for the Notre Dame basketball team after grad transferring from Yale, the New York Times has a story noting "the canceled 2020-21 season and league policies have led to a talent exodus for Ivy League basketball." From that story (LINK):

Patrick TapĂ©, who is starting for San Francisco this season as the Dons make their first N.C.A.A. tournament appearance since 1998, is Columbia’s career leader in field-goal percentage. He played last season at Duke before transferring to San Francisco. The former Columbia point guard Mike Smith helped Michigan reach a regional final last season. Jimmy Boeheim is playing for his father, Jim, at Syracuse after leaving Cornell. Ohio State gained Seth Towns, and Seton Hall welcomed Bryce Aiken last season. Each played at Harvard.

But the most talent, arguably, has been drained from Yale. Baylor started Makai Mason at guard in 2019 in his final season of eligibility, center Jordan Bruner played his final year at Alabama last season and Atkinson was an Ivy League Player of the Year in 2020.

The story could also have mentioned how Dartmouth alum Chris Knight started for Loyola in the NCAA's yesterday and teamed with Princeton alum Ryan Schwieger this winter for the Ramblers. And that Courtney Banghart's nationally ranked North Carolina team got a boost from Princeton grad Carlie Littlefield.

Green Alert Take: Earth to Ivy League presidents, earth to Ivy League presidents, you have a problem.

I would be remiss if I didn't share one of the most memorable of the terrific ESPN commercials featuring John Clayton, who passed away yesterday (LINK):

EXTRA POINT
The mud-season saga continues.

As noted here previously, it is 1.4 miles from our Vermont hillside home to the West Newbury post office. But not for the foreseeable future. Until the mud dries up and the road is graded it will be an 8.4-mile round trip.

Yesterday Mrs. BGA and I risked the short drive to the post office in her four-wheel drive car and risked is the operative word. If it wasn't downhill where the ruts began, the car might still be there. We got to a point of no return and plowed ahead. Yup plowed.

Fortunately, when we go the other way to the post office (and town) we have just a quarter mile or so of dirt road (mostly alongside our field) and because there's full sun and wind blowing across that part of our road it doesn't turn into oatmeal like the problematic sections.
