The NFL Draft begins Thursday night and runs through Saturday, and once the final name is called the scramble will begin for undrafted players to find their best landing spot and teams to find the best undrafted free agents. One way or another, safety Niko Mermigas and defensive lineman Seth Walter ––who helped Dartmouth win back-to-back Ivy League championships –– will learn their football fate in the next few days.

New England Football Journal, in a podcast titled Feel The Draft, New England’s best platform for local prospects, spoke to Mermigas recently. I encourage you to check out the show to learn a little more not just about Mermigas but about the Dartmouth football program as well:

(Click HERE if the interview doesn't come up.)

Green Alert Take:

I have told Niko this but if playing the game doesn't work out, I think he can have a future in football broadcasting. If you watched this interview I have no doubt you'll agree.

Here's another look at highlights for the two most recent Dartmouth grads hoping to continue their careers

Oklahoma has started a Name, Image and Likeness initiative that, according to a release, "will give every OU football player the opportunity to earn a 5-figure salary." From the story (LINK):

Through NIL, every OU football player will have an opportunity to earn between $40,000-$50,000 a year while positively impacting the community.”

And . . .

. . . (T)he 1Oklahoma Collective will provide NIL opportunity for football, men’s basketball and softball “with a vision to expand to other sports."

Green Alert Take: For better or worse, no turning back now.

EXTRA POINT

Yesterdays hike revealed the first itty-bitty flowers of the spring.

Mrs. BGA and I hiked a short but very steep trail over in New Hampshire yesterday and as we approached the summit we came across what I took to be a couple of grandparents, their daughter and their granddaughter, who might have been 4-years-old.

Perhaps 25 feet ahead of Mrs. BGA, I stopped to chat for a few seconds with the little girl and then, eager to check out the views just ahead, I continued on to the adjacent overlook.

A minute or so later Mrs. BGA joined me and she was laughing.

When I asked her what was so funny she said: "I told the little girl I was looking for a man with black shorts on, and has she seen him. She asked, me, 'Are you the police?' "

I think Mrs. BGA said no. At least I hope she did ;-)
