Former Cornell running back-turned-actor Ed Marinaro amusingly wore out his welcome introducing a draft pick for his former team, the Minnesota Vikings. Find a story HERE that includes this:

(Marinaro told) the crowd) just how hard it was to find an appropriately purple sports coat in which to announce the Vikings’ pick, before taking some shots at the Packers and their fans and then waxing rhapsodic about being drafted by Minnesota 50 years ago.

Not that it wasn’t entertaining, but the former Heisman Trophy runner-up went on so long that the NFL Network announcer began inserting his own quips on top of Marinaro’s speech including, “I love it. It’s a new residency in Vegas.”

Sadly, given what has happened to Sports Illustrated, I don't know if the publication still does its Signs of the Apocalypse note each issue. If it does, this would be a strong candidate.

Per a story in the Miami Herald (LINK) a South Florida billionaire already has spent $5 million on Name, Image and Likeness deals for University of Miami athletes this year. That includes a two-year deal worth $800,000 and a car for a basketball guard transferring in from Kansas State. The "benefactor" told the newspaper:

“We set a budget of about $10 million when I started for the year, but we’re not stuck at $10 million."

Here comes the inevitable kicker from ESPN (LINK):

Miami Hurricanes guard Isaiah Wong will enter the transfer portal on Friday if his name, image and likeness (NIL) compensation isn't increased, his NIL agent, Adam Papas of NEXT Sports Agency, told ESPN on Thursday.

Green Alert Take: I’m not really a fan of pro basketball but if I’m going to watch pros play I might as well watch the NBA and see the best. College football: You are on the clock.

EXTRA POINT
On my 1.9 mile drive for my daily hike I spotted this a couple of days ago. Seriously? What would it have cost to take this to the dump? Five dollars? Ten dollars? I'd have given you the money if you had asked.

Green Up Day here in Vermont is one week from today. Better have a big bag and a very strong back to clean this up.
