More NFL

Nothing new in this report but it's still fun to see Drew Estrada's signing with the Houston Texans making the TV news:

Speaking of the NFL, former Dartmouth safety Niko Mermigas is going to get a shot down in the Big Easy:

And as reported here previously, a former teammate of both Estrada and Mermigas will be continuing his football and academic career at Case Western Reserve:

Following up on yesterday's BGA Daily note, Dartmouth has the college football stage to itself this weekend. The Athletic posted this today:

In case that's hard to read, here's what it says:

Spring games have come a close (except Dartmouth) but NIL deals are a hot topic, the transfer portal never stops, and we are coming off NFL Draft weekend. There's plenty of football to talk about. Have a question for Andy Staples? Please submit it here, and don't forget to include your idea for the Random Ranking. The more random the better.

A reminder that Dartmouth's Green-White Game was scheduled a week later than normal to allow Big Green coaches to hit the road recruiting during a one-week hiatus in the spring practice schedule.

For a post-game report on the Green-White, be sure to visit BGA Premium Saturday night.

This is rich. Selections in the 2022 NFL Draft:

Yale Bulldogs – 1

Texas Longhorns – 0

That juxtaposition gets a mention HERE.

EXTRA POINT

I am happy to report that you can teach old dogs new tricks.

Correction: Old dogs can teach themselves new tricks.

For his eighth birthday we got the Wonder Dog this new toy:

The idea is to place treats in hidden depressions that can be accessed only by sliding the donut-shaped doohickey to the other end of the slot, which in turn allows the V-shaped thingie to be turned to the side, enabling access to the treasure below.

It took Griff a while to get to the treats the first time but he's gotten faster each time we've loaded it up.

Here's the problem. When either Mrs. BGA or I leave the house, Griff is fine. When we are leaving together he thinks there's an adventure awaiting for the three of us. To allay his disappointment that he's not invited, I used to slide kibble into a small, rubber football with a hole in one end, put it in the living room and tell him to "wait" until we were just about out the door. Told "OK," he'd pick up the ball and joyfully bounce it to free up his treats while we made our escape.

This toy figured to keep him distracted even longer but, truth be told, we have to be right at the door when we give him the "OK. " If we aren't, when we are driving away we'll see one very sad face in the rear view mirror. That's how fast this not-so-old dog learned this new trick ;-)
