That Certain Dartmouth '14 photo ;-) |
EXTRA POINT
This space wrote last month about That Certain Dartmouth '14 planning to compete in Colorado's San Juan Solstice 50, a "mega-altitude" 50-mile race on June 25. She's been training hard, covering 20 miles with 4,676 feet of elevation gain in one of her most recent workouts that featured an interesting twist. It happened on part of the race course at about 13,000 feet elevation that coincides with the Continental Divide Trail.
In a Facetime call last night she told us that during her workout she met a thru-hiker on his way from the Mexican border to the Canadian border. As they talked they discovered they were both from New England. When TCD'14 told him she grew up in New Hampshire, he told her he graduated from . . . wait for it . . . Dartmouth. But the world turned out to be even smaller. Both went on the Dartmouth's famed "Stretch" program, one year apart. And both earned their Dartmouth degrees in earth science, with TCD'14 graduating one year ahead of her new friend.
