Ryan Bloch's out-of-retirement story continues to get better with Saturday's field goal in the final seconds giving Dartmouth the win over Columbia and helping him claim this week's Ivy League special teams player of the week honors. Find a story HERE.
My practice report on Sept. 21 centered on Bloch, and given how his story has evolved I've made it available to everyone HERE. No password needed.
Green Alert Take: What would have been really cool is if the Ivy League had split the special teams award between Bloch and longsnapper Josh Greene. On a day when we were reminded of the value of good longsnapping (Weber State gave up four safeties as a result of bad snaps), Greene not only was 10-for-10 on snaps (four punts, three PATs and three FGAs) but he also ran down and recovered a fumbled punt return to set up a Dartmouth touchdown.

Want to know one reason why Ivy League teams don't get the national recognition they may deserve? There are 126 teams ranked for strength of schedule by the Massey Ratings System. Here's how the Ivy teams stand (nonleague opponents in parentheses):
75 - Harvard (Merrimack, Holy Cross, Howard)
81 - Yale (Holy Cross, Howard, Bucknell)
83 - Dartmouth (Valparaiso, Sacred Heart New Hampshire)
85 - Brown (Bryant, Rhode Island, Central Connecticut)
94 - Cornell (VMI, Colgate, Lehigh)
101 - Penn (Colgate, Lafayette, Georgetown)
103 - Columbia (Marist, Georgetown, Wagner)
109 - Princeton (Stetson, Lehigh, Lafayette)

EXTRA POINT
As I bang away on BGA Daily I can hear Robo, our robotic vacuum cleaner, rolling around downstairs picking up a corn flake crumb I just might have spilled, Griff's shedded fur, whatever gunk has come off the soles of our shoes since yesterday and anything else that needs to be cleaned off the floor. At some point most of the noise will abate as Robo shuts down its vacuuming function and rolls quietly back to its charging base. We've had the thing for several years now and I have to admit, it still amazes me. On those few days when I finish my work before Robo completes its rounds, I've been known to just sit and watch it find its way from the living room, through the dining room, into the kitchen, around a bend toward the mud room and onto its base underneath a hunt table. It's mesmerizing. Most days, however, Robo wraps up its duty before I do and when I head downstairs I never fail to double-check that it has made its way home. There's something reassuring about finding it back on its base with the charge light blinking rhythmically like a heartbeat. Yeah, I really like the thing.
