EXTRA POINT
For those keeping score, the trip to New Jersey in the EV was relatively seamless. We charged once while we had breakfast and again while we had lunch. Because the charger would not accept payment on the second charge, they got us going over the phone and the charge was free. (If we'd had our battery replacement already and had been able to charge to 100 percent before leaving we would have been able to get down here with just a lunch charge.)
