Plus One

Add to the list of Dartmouth recruits Colin O’Garro, a 6-foot-1, 205-pound running back from powerhouse Iona Prep in New Rochelle, N.Y. Per MaxPreps he ran for 1,319 yards and 17 touchdowns last fall, catching two TD passes along the way. He helped the Gaels go 9-3 and make it to the New York State finals against St. Anthony's this fall.

Also offered by Colgate and Bucknell, the new addition to the Dartmouth program is the son of Ed O'Garro '88, a onetime Big Green recruit.

Senior defensive lineman Shane Cokes' list of grad transfer offers continues to swell. Add Colorado, Iowa State and Toledo to a list that already included NC State, Oklahoma State, West Virginia, Washington State, Purdue, Wake Forest, UConn, UMass, Coastal Carolina.

The only other grad transfer Twitter shows as tacking on another offer over the weekend is Tyron Herrin, who adds Furman to a list that already included Maine, Indiana State, Eastern Kentucky, Chattanooga.

To the list of potential grad transfers add the name of All-New England linebacker Joe Heffernan, a fifth-year senior this fall. He posted his grad transfer announcement HERE and his season highlights HERE.

Jerry Berndt, a Dartmouth assistant coach from 1971-78 and the architect of the remarkable turnaround of the Penn program as head coach from 1981-85, has passed away at age 84.

Berndt took over a Penn team that had won just one Ivy League game in the two years prior to his arrival and won the title in his second season. And his third. And his fourth. And his fifth. He parlayed that success into head coaching positions at Rice and Temple.

Between his time as a Dartmouth assistant and arriving at Penn he spent two years as head coach at DePauw where he had a couple of grad assistants named Buddy Teevens and Don Dobes.

Berndt passed away less than a month after Jake Crouthamel, the coach he worked under at Dartmouth.

EXTRA POINT
Just a quick note to tell you how heartwarming it is to see so many familiar names showing up on the GoFundMe page supporting offensive lineman Josh Balara in his fight against adrenal cancer. Since the first note about the effort to make life a little easier on Josh and his family went up here the amount of money in the fund has more than doubled and you are a big part of that. And I know that in addition to the names I recognize there are others from around the Dartmouth program who have contributed anonymously. So a huge thank you to everyone. If you'd like to help, the GoFundMe page in support of Josh and his family can be accessed HERE.
