There's a story out of Upstate New York on Syracuse graduate transfer Isaiah Johnson '22, who had a solid first year with the Orange. The piece is behind a paywall HERE, but the headline and lede are a reminder of why the 6-foot-3 corner left Hanover for the 'Cuse:

Syracuse defensive back Johnson campaigns for breakthrough season, possible NFL career

Isaiah Johnson is kick-starting his campaign to be the next Syracuse University shutdown cornerback while he continues studying for his potential future in politics.

HERO Sports has Tweeted the 2023 schedules for Patriot League teams and with Dartmouth playing two games against teams from the PL it got me thinking about who they might be playing the week before taking on the Big Green. Given that a big win/tough loss hangover can stick around for a bit, here are the teams Dartmouth's nonleague opponents are facing the week prior to playing the Green:

• Week One opponent New Hampshire will be at FBS Central Michigan.

• Week Two opponent Lehigh will host Cornell.

• Week Five opponent Colgate will have played at Cornell.

The Learfield Director's Cup, "a joint effort between the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) and USA Today," is intended to give an idea of the relative strength of college athletic programs. While it's very easy to nitpick its design, the Director's Cup is the best we have until and unless a couple of Dartmouth alums working on what they hope is an improved model for comparing athletic programs comes online.

That said, the Director's Cup just revealed its winter standings and all of Dartmouth's points came from the ski team. The Big Green was the only school in the Ivies not to accumulate any points in the fall. Here's how the Division I national rankings look:

WINTER
14. Princeton
40. Harvard
60. Penn
70. Cornell
72. Columbia
81. Yale
135. Brown
142. Dartmouth

FALL
36. Princeton
40. Harvard
69. Cornell
84. Penn
120. Brown
151. Columbia
154. Yale
NR Dartmouth

EXTRA POINT
With the Masters being conducted this week, did I ever tell you about the first time I covered the event? True story, rather than fly, rent a car and scramble to find pricey accommodations, I made it an adventure and drove our '84 VW Vanagon poptop camper to Augusta. With a little Googling I had worked out a deal to park it on Washington Road, the busy, Route 12-A type thoroughfare adjacent to the club. I paid a whopping $25/night to camp in the parking lot of a beauty salon just a par-3 away from famed Magnolia Lane. Quite the bargain and lot more memorable than the next time I covered the event, stayed at a hotel across the river in South Carolina, and had to battle the traffic to the course each day.
