Here We Go

If Sept. 16 isn't Christmas morning for Dartmouth football players, then it is today when the Big Green begins preseason practice in anticipation of the opener at New Hampshire in the middle of next month.

Speaking of the opener in 28 days, the last of the 10 opponent previews (Yale) went up on BGA Premium last night. Daily practice coverage begins this evening. CLICK HERE to learn more.

How excited are the coaches and players to get the 2023 season started? Check this out from Dartmouth football's social media:

On the subject of being excited, it would seem the Colorado School of Mines is pretty excited to have Noah Roper '23, back in the state as a graduate student.

Find his Mines bio HERE.

Still in the grad transfer sphere, John Paul Flores '22 received his share of attention playing last. year at Virginia and this year at Louisville. It's just a brief mention but younger brother Michael '23, is included in a story about the upcoming season at Old Dominion. From the story (LINK):

On the offensive line, Old Dominion has three transfers that are expected to contribute when they travel to Blacksburg in Tulane transfer Keanon McNally, Grambling State graduate transfer Chris Chernak Jr. and Dartmouth transfer Michael Flores.

It's a random picture but former Dartmouth defensive end Niko Lalos '20 shows up in a photo from the New Orleans Saints exhibition opener last week against the Kansas City Chiefs. Click HERE to see the shot of the Lalos, hoping to make a regular season NFL roster for the first time since appearing in six games during his rookie season with the New York Giants. He played last spring for the XFL's Seattle Sea Dragons .

EXTRA POINT

Have to admit, I'm conflicted about all the rain we've been getting. On the one hand, our six acres of grass and field hasn't "browned out" this year and is growing like crazy. Given that my lawn tractor isn't running right now, that leaves me using my walk-behind. And that's no fun.

But as I said, I'm conflicted. If you've been following along, you know we had a new roof put on our house this summer. The roofer dropped a dumpster off for the old shingles expecting the job to start in a few days. But the non-stop rains kept his crew on other jobs longer than planned, and so the dumpster sat on our lawn for more than a couple of weeks. The result after our roof was done and the dumpster was finally hauled off? A large, brown rectangle that used to be lawn.

Realizing a week or so ago that the lawn in question wasn't going to come back, I planted grass seed and diligently watered the lawn. Twice.

I haven't had to do it since, and thanks to the rainy summer, the grass is sprouting quite nicely, thank you very much.

Mother Nature giveth and Mother Nature taketh away.
