A story out of Wyoming (don't post links to many of those ;-) about a new head coach at the high school sending kicker Matisse Weaver to Dartmouth includes this (LINK):

Coach Burton added another name to the list of players he’ll be missing: Matisse Weaver, Lander’s superstar kicker and offensive Swiss Army Knife who signed with Dartmouth University (sic) earlier this summer.

“If you can kick the ball into the endzone every time, that’s huge,” Coach Burton said about Weaver. “But there are some people we are going to have to try and replace. I don’t know if you can ever truly replace any of them, we’ll just have to adapt and make our style fit the kids we have.”

With Michigan posting its 2023 roster the media noticed something on the roster. The 247Sports site has a story headlined, Michigan adds Jehu Chesson's brother as graduate transfer wide receiver; One of the Wolverines' less-publicized transfer additions brings a familiar name back to Michigan's sideline. From the story (LINK):

Though the Michigan football team added several high-profile transfers this offseason, one of the Wolverines' less-publicized transfer additions brings a familiar name back to Michigan's sideline. Dale Chesson, a 6-foot-1 receiver out of Dartmouth, will follow in his brother Jehu's footsteps and play for the maize and blue this fall.

The younger Chesson, believed to be a walk-on addition and listed on Michigan's fall roster released Wednesday, caught 29 passes for 341 yards in 16 games for the Big Green over three active seasons. He struggled with injuries, but showed promise in the 2021 season with 21 catches, 259 yards and two touchdowns in just four games. Last fall, he failed to record a catch in two games played.

The story ends this way:

As a recruit, he recorded a verified 40-yard dash time of 4.57 seconds, a shuttle run time of 4.50 seconds and a vertical leap of 33.2 inches.

Though his role at Michigan is unclear and statistical expectations are low, the younger Chesson is also in Ann Arbor to get a graduate degree with the Ross School of Business.

He also gets a mention this a Maize N Brew story HERE

Speaking of grad transfers, a story about Old Dominion football headlined Here are Some of the 58 Newcomers Who Will Play Key Roles for ODU Football includes this (LINK):

The offensive line gained experience and size from Tulane in redshirt freshman Keanon McNally (6-8, 326, Kearny, Missouri), Grambling State graduate transfer Chris Chernak Jr. (6-8, 316, redshirt senior, Brooklyn, New York) and Dartmouth transfer Michael Flores (6-3, 295, redshirt senior, Arlington, Texas).

Flores was a reserve as a junior but started 10 games for Dartmouth in 2022. He is a graduate transfer. All three are expected to play this fall.

The Dartmouth athletics site has a story about former Big Green defensive lineman and captain Mike Rabil '06 and his journey to founding the Premier Lacrosse League along with his brother Paul, an all-time great college lacrosse player at Johns Hopkins. Mike Rabil from the story (LINK):

"Playing football at Dartmouth pushed me to dig deeper within myself than ever before to prove my commitment and resilience," he said. "It was the hardest I've ever worked at something. When something gets really hard today, I think back to the two-a-days I had to do for two and a half weeks straight playing against guys who were bigger, faster, stronger than me and also managing the academic rigor of Dartmouth."

Green Alert Take: Mike Rabil has started a good number of businesses but perhaps not the one he once told me he'd like to start. That was a restaurant that if I remember correctly, would have served Lebanese food.

EXTRA POINT
With my brother in town from southern Indiana for a few days we're going to bring him up to Burlington, Vt., today and spend a little time on Church Street in the college town and on one of the ferries crossing between Vermont and New York on beautiful Lake Champlain. Highly encourage anyone coming to these parts for a few days to check out Burlington and the lake.
