And now for your look around the Ivy League after one game . . .

Holy Cross 49, Yale 24
In a matchup pitting the run-away Patriot League favorites against the run-away Ivy League favorites score a big one for the PL. Holy Cross (2-1) grabbed bragging rights for its league by reeling off 28 consecutive points to turn a four-point game into a rout. Matthew Sluka, the Crusaders' standout quarterback, completed 23-of-30 passes for 275 yards and four touchdowns and ran 14 times for 98 yards and two more scores as Holy Cross rebounded from last week's heartbreaking loss at Boston College. Yale QB Nolan Grooms threw for 112 yards and one score and ran for 68 yards. On the bright side for the Bulldogs, they ran for 226 yards against the nation's fifth-ranked team. Attendance at the Bowl was a disappointing 4,968 for a game pitting FCS teams many would argue are the best in New England.

Brown 29, Bryant 25
Trailing 25-22 after a Bryant touchdown with 1:03 remaining, the Bears drove 76 yards in six plays to claim the win on a four-yard pass from Jake Willcox to Dillon Golden. Willcox completed 4-of-6 throws during the winning march and was 36-for-49 for 355 yards and three touchdowns on the game. Wes Rockett had eight caatches for 122 yards and two scores for Brown. The attendance was not listed.

Lafayette 24, Columbia 3
The Lions took the early lead on a 42-yard field goal only to see the Leopards (2-1) hold them off the scoreboard the rest of the way. With quarterback Caden Bell under constant pressure he completed just 9-of-24 passes for 83 yards, a big reason why the Ivy Leaguers were limited to 157 yards of total offense on the day. Lafayette ran for 243 yards to Columbia's 74 net yards. Joey Giorgi was responsible for 73 of those yards on 18 carries. Attendance at Lafayette was 6,985.

Cornell 23, Lehigh 20
The Big Red jumped out to a 17-0 lead over next week's Dartmouth opponent but then had to hold on as the Mountain Hawks (1-2) stormed back. After Lehigh drove 63 yards for a touchdown with 1:13 left Cornell recovered the ensuing onside kick to preserve the win. Jameson Wang completed 19-of-31 passes for 293 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 85 yards to lead the Big Red, which held the home team to 239 yards of total offense. Lehigh quarterback Brayten Silbor was sacked three times and intercepted twice while completing 21-of-42 throws for 192 yards. Attendance in Bethlehem was 4,087.

Harvard 45, St. Thomas 13
Shane McLaughlin ran 79 yards for a touchdown on Harvard's first play from scrimmage and the Crimson never looked back, scoring on their first three possessions, building a 38-0 lead on quarterback Charle DePrima's 69-yard run 23 seconds into the third quarter and cruising to a comfortable win. DePrima, in his first career start, was just 7-of-18 for 92 yards with one touchdown and one interception but ran 10 times for 113 yards and the touchdown against the Tommies (1-2). Attendance at Harvard Stadium was 6,217.

Princeton 23, San Diego 12
The Tigers allowed the 0-3 Toreros' running backs just 12 yards and with sacks, and lost yardage held the home team to minus-15 yards on the ground. Blake Stenstrom completed 23-of-38 passes for 240 yards and two touchdowns while John Volker carried 16 times for 91 yards and a score as the Tigers won their seventh season-opener in a row. Attendance in San Diego was 1,791.

Penn 20, Colgate 6
The Quakers took away 0-3 Colgate's top offensive threat by sacking quarterback Michael Brescia six times for a loss of 41 yards and limiting him to 19-of-43 passing. They also picked him off two times. Aidan Sayin was 26-for-43 for Penn, which used a TD pass with 1:36 left in the first half and another 1:19 into the second half to ease by Dartmouth's final non-conference opponent. Attendance in Hamilton, N.Y., was 3,627.

Extra Point
Here's how we watched the Penn State-Illinois Big Ten opener yesterday afternoon overlooking Great Bay just east of Durham. The only down side was being pelted by acorns being blown off the tree above us.
