Apparently the coaches at Butler watched some Dartmouth film because their first game with Nick Howard at quarterback had the feel of so many that came before it, albeit on Saturday against a less accomplished opponent.
The former Big Green standout led the Bulldogs in rushing with 54 yards and one touchdown on just five carries and completed 5-of-6 passes for 95 yards and one touchdown in a 40-7 win over Upper Iowa before a crowd of 3,109 in Indianapolis. Howard opened the scoring with a one-yard run, had a 58-yard touchdown pass and a 31-yard run against the Division II Peacocks.
Howard – who had used up his Ivy League eligibility – and the Bulldogs play at Murray State this week.

Week 2 Dartmouth opponent Merrimack put together a strong defensive effort in a 21-6 loss to Air Force in its opener. The Warriors held the usually potent Falcon attack to 237 yards of total offense and were within 14-0 as the fourth quarter neared the midway point. It might have been closer but for Merrimack losing three fumbles, with two leading to Air Force touchdowns.
The game drew a crowd of 31,658.

EXTRA POINT
That Certain Nittany Lion '16 has some out-of-state Penn State friends in town enjoying a look around Vermont on the long holiday weekend. They took advantage of the extended lightning delay at halftime down in Morgantown yesterday to check out Hanover's Main Street before making it up our way to watch the second half and enjoy Mrs. BGA's signature shish kebabs.
Heavy cloud cover erased any chance they had to see the stars in the usually dark rural Vermont sky when we headed outside to the fire ring last night, and as we speak Mt. Moosilauke (elevation 4,802 feet) is hidden in the clouds. Here's hoping TCNL'16's company from Pittsburgh and upstate New York will get to see the mountain before heading home.
